Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Continuing to ramp up my mileage for my upcoming event. Yesterday, I ran 6 miles on the treadmill, which is my “medium” distance weekly run. A couple shorter runs earlier in the week.

Today, I was feeling so good that I attempted a deadlift PR, which I failed. I got the barbell to the knees, but just couldn’t hold on to it and lock out my legs. It’s a milestone weight, where I’ve failed at multiple times. I just can’t seem to “get over the hump.”

Ophelia messed me up today. Saturdays are now blechy since the gym doesn’t open until 7, so I usually do my “workout” (abs and mobility/recovery) in the shed and then run and then finish up on the stairmonster/bike. But rain and 40moh winds. There was a time I’d still get out there. I’m over that. So I slept in an hour and then just did 50 min of intervals on the stairmonster and 30 min on the bike.

Then I’ve spent the day mostly watching football and napping and reading. I did do a bunch of cleaning so tomorrow won’t be so bad.

We are only supposed to get 1.5”-3” of rain so nothing terrible. So far we’ve kept power which is a miracle. My coworker a couple of miles away lost it for few hours though. Crossing fingers our luck holds. We’ve lost it 3x in the last few weeks already.

One thing I love about getting/being older is the, for me, newfound ability to cut yourself some slack. Yesterday, I was supposed to meet up with a group to play pickle ball at 7:20ish, but when I woke up my right knee just felt weird. I knew that if I played I would put lots of torque on it as I am definitely the worst player in the group and I have to work to keep up. So, instead, I rolled over and went back to sleep! And my Apple watch said that I slept for 9 hours and 44 minutes. YES! I haven’t slept well in weeks so I needed that much more than I needed to play pickleball.

I just got off the treadmill while watching this Oregon-Colorado game. I had high hopes that it would be a great game but nah.

Today I was somewhat busy with trip planning / packing and had some gardening aspirations. But… I decided to hop on the bike to ride to the local trail and do a “Lake Loop” (6 miles, but hey it beats sitting around and eating junk food). While there I took a 2+ km walk. Later I did some watering and gardening in the front yard… Such LOVELY weather, sunny - 70s… almost makes me sad to leave. Almost - it’s a Europe bucket list trip.

There is still more gardening to do in the back yard. But instead I’ve opted to take a book out there and enjoy the sunshine.

After disappoinment with deadlifts in the gym yesterday, I hit two consecutive 5.5 lb (2.5 kgs) PR’s with back squats today. And the last PR was a huge struggle.

My spotters joked afterwards that it took me 10 minutes to get to standing upright. They said they would have quit on the attempt. Oh so close to failure. If I had to choose one lift to PR, between those two, squats would be my choice.

The HIIT was 18-minutes of pull-ups, rowing and lighter squats. If all goes well, long run tomorrow.

So excited… just booked this guided bike tour in Amsterdam for Tuesday. (Yes, I did see Ted Lasso Amsterdam epsisode… yes, we will be careful  )

Be careful, the biking is insane in Amsterdam.

The bike lanes are red. Be very aware of them and out of them.

Had my wellness check today:
Pretty much all good. Down 5 pounds from my high weight. LDL <100 and total cholesterol <150

I had 3 of my 4 practices this week which definitely helps the exercise.

I’m thinking about running a 5k turkey trot. I used to be a marathoner, but for some reason I’m having a mental block around committing to it. Who are my runners on here? Tell me to do it. OR tell me no way!

Recreational runner here!

A turkey trot is a GREAT choice because most people are doing it for fun or have the tradition of going out with various family members of all ages…SO, it’s a fun crowd with not too high a level of seriousness! Sure there will be the runners who can’t stop and are always looking for a new PR but whether you run fast, at a comfortable pace, walk a little bit, walk a lot a bit - all will be acceptable!

GO FOR IT!

I took a spill on the tennis court yesterday and banged up my knee a bit :frowning: I don’t think it is anything serious, but I’m babying it a bit just to be cautious. Hoping to be back in action sooner rather than later.

Now that I’m not doing Murph’s every week, I’ve increased my mileage and I actually ran a 1/2 recently.

But my typical routine is 3 runs/week, short, medium and long in between CF and powerlifting programming.

Each year, I do a 10K Turkey Trot and it’s very causal and fun with some entrants wearing Thanksgiving-themed costumes.

As the Nike proclaims, “just do it.”

Well, I just bought some new shoes so I’m one step closer, pun intended.

I love new shoes. One of my favorite material things in life.

When people ask me why I have so many shoes, I respond by saying why does a mechanic have more than one tool in their toolbox.

@Youdon_tsay - run the Turkey Trot! Just for fun.

Not a runner anymore but I say…Do it! You won’t regret it - runs like that are so much fun/lots of camaraderie and bonus if it is held the morning of or the day after Thanksgiving…carte blanche to enjoy an extra slice of pie (or two) on Turkey day.

I feel you on this!

Why I do the stairmonster! 487 steps. No problemo. We are in Quebec City. This will be my favorite thing even though I love old Quebec!

Racing is not fun for me, but I’m a weirdo. So do it!
