Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I recognized that! I remember doing a bicycle ride through there, and I think it was raining so we didn’t do the stairs, even though we went into the area. (Husband is trying to figure out what year we went to check pics).
ETA we also rode around the (entire) island in the middle of the river. It was cold and windy there, and for whatever reason it was really hard to find a restaurant open.
Plus we were hoping the see the fall colors, but it wound up being a little too early that year.

I did four cycles of five minutes walking, five minutes running in my new shoes today. I also love a new pair of running shoes!

I wanted to do the zip line in front of the falls but it was closed today. It was open for some groups of kids though. Tomorrow it’s open but it’s supposed to rain. The colors are pretty here now. But probably not quite peak. They are still gorgeous.

Waterfalls and climbing things are two of my favorite things so it was a good morning lol!

Turns out our turkey trot is five miles, not a 5k! I don’t think I can run five miles so maybe I’ll sign up and do a little of both running and walking.

Absolutely.

I originally signed up for a running program because I wanted to do a Turkey Trot with my kids and I thought you had to run the whole distance. I had no idea that a lot of people walk part/all of the distance. I have since found out a lot of people think you can only run.

I encourage you to sign up and run what you can and walk the rest.

This could go on the Prime Days thread, but if anyone was wanting more dumbbells, these are a good deal, especially the pair of 10s.and they go up to 50s

I would consider running our local Turkey Trot (a few weeks before Thanksgiving) if it were 5k, even though parking etc logistic are a pain. But the 2 mile option seems too short and the 10k option is definitely too long.

Maybe we should all have a vitual turkey trot “together”… incentive to run in late November.

I would be up that!

I would do that, too! I haven’t run in a very long time, but I think I could still eek out a very slow 5k.

Edited to add - I actually love this idea. We can agree on a date and it would be fun to post photos from our start and end…kind of kick to see all the different places we run.

I’m in! Just need a window of time to complete it. Maybe we designate a 3-7 day time period to get it done. Walkers, runners, however you can complete 5K!

I am hoping to run an in person 5K turkey trot (small race, in my neighborhood) but I am still in.

Do we want to make it “CC Wide” - as in, make a separate thread and invite others who may not frequent this thread or who are tentative to comment here to participate??? Like a group health/wellness event - not competitive, just participatory!

(ok, if you’d rather keep it to this thread - just a thought to open it. )

I like the idea of opening it up!

Me too! And I’d also go further and make it untimed. Any pace or even run/walk/hop/skip is ok! Though you might get bonus points if you skip 3.1 miles!

I Googled “how to create a virtual 5k” and was immediately overwhelmed. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Open it up to a wider audience. I’ve always loved a crowd. :grinning:

I have a couple questions.

Is this a Turkey Trot, so run around Thanksgiving?

Can the distance be more than a 5K? I also typically run an in-person 10K TT. One problem there is that I won’t be running with my phone.

Treadmill runs OK? I could do my bay trail. So many options.

Could be fun to a start encouraging thread to get people to do it around Thanksgiving/before mid-December.
I’m in.

I say make it yes a “community” Turkey Trot. “Thankful” for health/wellness . Suggust a 5k but people can opt for more…or less. Set a timeframe to complete it. Ask that people post a pic of something on their “trot”. Nature, something they saw, their shoes, themselves if they really want to (I don’t usually do this but some people here have…or can block their face out).

Sort of a FRIENDSGIVING event!!! Most of us are friends, right?!!!

That’s exactly what I had in mind. The Friendsgiving 5k! And then do more if you’re really thankful! Maybe a “requirement” be that when you post afterward you tell us something for which you are thankful.

Woot! Now I’m excited to do this whereas upthread I was waffling on the whole idea of running a 5k.

Prepare to be very underwhelmed by my photos! A nice parking lot? the backside of a tobacco storage warehouse? Or perhaps a nice dark pic of an unlit trail?

I have been seeing some foxes lately though, and a skunk last week! No pics of that. I don’t want to get too close!
