Ran on the treadmill this morning. I grumble about the dreadmill, but thankful I have one. Tried a “Yoga with Adriene” video last night and recommended it to D. My studio is working on getting classes streamed.

Went out midday for a 2 mile walk. It was my first outside workout in almost 5 weeks (since I was diagnosed with the stress fracture). I just had to get some fresh air. I hope my re-check appointment in 9 days doesn’t cancel… It was nice to listen to my music instead of watching the news…over and over and over…
4 mile walk today - not working from home but was off with H who had a medical procedure. Interesting to see a good number of people on our neighborhood trail in the middle of the day - several families walking and biking.
Our Governor (Ohio) announced this afternoon that all fitness, rec centers, gyms, indoor water parks, trampoline places etc. close. He must have driven past some of those Planet Fitness places with full parking lots!
I agree! Forward is most definitely a pace! Never compare yourself to others. There’s always someone faster than you! I may be faster than a lot of people, but those elite ladies run marathons faster than I have ever run 1 mile! They are in a whole different league. Plus, there are MANY things fitness related that I am terrible at. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Just get out there and enjoy doing whatever you like to do.
@FallGirl I love Adriene! She had a 30 day yoga series on youtube a few years ago. You could probably still find all of them. They are about 15-30 min and were perfect for my lunch hour. Of course, now I just nap during lunch. I used to use the Grokker app. It has thousands of yoga videos. However, you’re supposed to pay monthly for it. I had no idea. Somehow I get it for free. But after someone told me you were supposed to pay, I stopped using it and felt bad, but I’m too cheap to pay $$$. Now, I tend to just do various ones on youtube or through my Beachbody app.
Planet Fitness now has live streaming classes. I am guessing they are prepping everyone in case they have to close. I would not use them myself, but I appreciate the effort.
@ClassicMom98 - I recommended Adrien’s videos to D today. She doesn’t belong to a yoga studio but is feeling the isolation and needs self care (she is an extrovert).
Backward has a pace too! I will often run laterally by hoping sideways and also run backwards to use the different muscles on runs. Track only of course.
Well, the SF Bay Area counties are issuing a shelter-in-place order beginning tonight at midnight. So, I texted the owners of my gym to see if they’re closing it. I assume they will, although it’s a chip-in type place, where there’s no supervision and rarely more than a few people at any one time. Thank goodness I have a home gym ,just in case.
I may get one more workout in today and then listen to the shelter-in-place order.
I have an irregular work schedule this week with a boss losing his mind over all the money he is losing.
I had to swing by the grocery store today and luckily my favorite pretzels were all gone or surely I’d be stress eating them right now.
I will try not to miss any training sessions this week, but I feel certain it will be a deload week.
I walked a fair amount again today.
I admit I didn’t get a lot of work done at work today. So much talk about Covid19 it’s hard to focus.
Well, I have the next 3 weeks off for the 1st time in my post-school life. And my gym is closing at midnight tonight for 3 weeks too. Thank goodness I’m lucky enough to have a fairly well-stocked home gym, though limited in terms of space.
However, the two movements that I can’t do at home I made sure I got done tonight at the gym: rope climbs and muscle-ups. I won’t be able to do those now for at least 3 weeks. I don’t have rower either, but I do have an air bike and my legs.
A lot of CF gyms with a large online presence are now posting home workouts for those with limited equipment, but I should be OK. We also have a couple nearby school tracks and I’ll probably bring a barbell and weights there for some lift and run workouts.
Doing a 9 mile hike today with H and D before the rain comes Tomorrow and Thursday.
I figure every day I can go to the gym now is a gift. Planet Fitness has blocked off every other machine in order to maintain the 6’ spacing between people. Between that and the free online classes (that are supposed to be available for anyone BTW), I think it will be just a matter of time. We do not have any cases officially here; however, we don’t have any tests here either. Of course, being the planner, I’m debating where to go to the hospital should the need arise. I could drive ½ mile to the local hospital that is notorious for being horrific. Or, we could drive an hour to Duke. Much better facility, but would it be overwhelmed? But then again, we are a city of old, poor, unhealthy people, so our local hospital may be overwhelmed too. Hopefully, it won’t come to that, but I’ve got to think of something on my runs.
Legs were tired from yesterday’s run, so this morning was a 35 min hilly run, then 20 min stairmonster, 20 min bike. It sounds like a lot, but all of those little short bits help me out a lot. Then, I did a Total Body Core video. It was my first testing my shoulder/collarbone. I lightened up the weights and significantly decreased the ROM on my push-ups. It didn’t seem too bad.
I keep alternating between feeling OK and like the world is going to come crashing down. Keeping busy helps. I am very thankful to have a steady job that will be one of the last to shut down. My big boss still thinks it’s a political stunt… But, we have dedicated custodians who must spend all day, every day constantly wiping down doorknobs, railings, water fountains, etc. with cleaners for the unforeseeable future. I told them I was sorry but thank you for your work.
I took the barbell and bumper plates from home and went to the local school track, for my first non-gym “shelter-in-place” workout. I did some snatches, cleans, front squats, weighted front-racked lunges, good mornings, barbell rows and weighted sit-ups. Oh, and running 3 miles in 1/4 or 1/2 mile intervals.
No wiping equipment necessary today.
The local trail was quite busy today. The gorgeous weather really helped!
My running club has suspended all group runs/walks and encouraging solo or small group (w/distancing) runs/walks. Registration for the womens training I have been part of the last 4 years (coached last year) has been suspended. Made me cry (long story but really life changing for me). But I’ll be going outside to run in a few minutes. I have to continue doing what I can.
The hiking club has suspended the Sunday hikes for the unforeseeable future.
I’m getting more bad news by the minute re: my employment. It’s pretty clear that I’ve got to keep my head on straight.
Dr. David Puder released a podcast episode all about managing fear & anxiety during stressful times.
If worksheets are your thing, he has posted a PDF worksheet to work thru distorted thinking using CBT.
I’d post a link, but I’m on my phone. Google will take you to his podcast.
Stay well, mentally & physically.
My walking group suspended walks too :(. Heading out alone with the dog.
Happy to report no residual soreness from yesterday’s extended hike.
I got outside for a 5K walk this morning for the first time in 5 weeks (stress fracture diagnosis) and it felt great to be outside. I’m not a good fitness walker- I get impatient and am always tempted to just run- but I did it. Listened to music which was a nice break from the cable news I watch on my treadmill. It was gloomy, but some spring flowers are in bloom.
Has anybody ever gotten a “thunder headache”? Yesterday I started exercising my arms first, before any cardio. I did a few standing up, then went to do some knee pushups which are really hard for me. After about 3, I got a huge headache on the top of my head, very painful. It went to the sides and I was pressing my head trying to get the throbbing to stop. It went away after about 5 minutes. I looked it up and that’s where I learned it was called a thunder headache.
Could be many serious things, but I fall in the category of strenuous exercise. Perhaps I should warm up with cardio.
So today I did that, but didn’t get on my hands and knees while I was working on my arms. My last was bicep curls with weights. I did strain a little on the last few and my head started hurting the on sides.
Has this happened to you?
It’s great that so many of us are getting outside. I have wooden steps from one area of my yard to another. I have my own set of ‘stadium” steps.
My gym closed as of today.
@MichaelNKat hope you are well and your business can survive this.
I got no exercise so far today, and doubt I will do much this evening. It sounds like I will be home much of next week, so I plan to exercise a lot then. I am going to spend tonight trying to put some of the rooms in my house that have been painted back to some semblance of normal.
