Flagship or Not?

I've read that the top Ivy League schools give you a bit of an edge when applying to medical school if you're able to cope with the tough competition for a respectable GPA, and if you're able to score well on the MCAT.

At this point, my chances of getting into a top university are slim to none, but I'm still an advanced, disciplined student. I'm looking at some of the better public schools in my state such as UVA and William & Mary, but I was wondering if it was worth putting up with additional competition for grades at schools like that? Would I be better off in a school where the average GPA is a 3.0 and the SAT requirements are easy to meet? It would probably be easier to keep my GPA up, but would I be sacrificing much in terms of class quality etc., and would I get any advantage during medical school admissions if I got accepted into a more competitive university such as UVA and W&M?

The "easier" schools I'm referring to would be CNU, GMU, ODU, etc.

I know ODU has an agreement with EVMS (which is right down the street) for guaranteed acceptance to the med school with a specific gpa from ODU. So if you go to ODU and do well you’re a lock for the post-grad med program. I’m an ODU grad, so I can also tell you most of the science/technology programs are well regarded. Especially sports medicine, oceanography and computer engineering.
