Just ready to get dropped at the curb at the airport this AM and get a call that flight has been cancelled to O'Hare (news said over 300 flights cancelled), and no seats available for later flights! It would have been D's very last audition.....

Cancelled hotel, car & audition time at Northwestern....D won't have any more time to get away, so........admissions said they would review her pre-screening DVD - but can't imagine it could really take the place of a live audition.

A previous post said there is always a possibility of weather/audition problems at this time of year...D not fretting, so am sure all will work out.

badblonde I am very sorry to hear that. What a shame. And it has been such a mild winter up to now. Your daughter sounds like a real trooper and I’m sure everything will be ok. Also thanks for letting us know My D is coming home tomorrow for her break and we better keep an eye on the weather/flights.

Sorry to hear of the cancellation, but glad to hear that your D is not fretting–good sign of strong character (or at least stronger than mine when we had weather-related flight issues during audition season!). While a recording is never an ideal substitute for a live audition, given the circumstances beyond your control, I’m sure that NW will treat it seriously–the DVD will probably have more minutes of rep than would ever be heard in a live audition.

Audition roulette! When I read about the O’Hare cancellations, my first thought was that it’s going to ruin some poor singers day. I’ll bet that Northwestern had a very poor showing and your D’s prescreening is not the only one that they will be viewing with careful consideration. Good luck!

I wonder if they would accept an updated recording? I know my D improved a lot from the time of her prescreen until audition time. Of course you would have to have the time to make one…

I think we are just going to hope for the best - there really is no substitute (at least for her) for the live performance. …I will e-mail them the paperwork she was supposed to bring w/ her, though.

She has a great attitude, and feels ‘…everything will work out’…I know she is happy the auditions & all that went with them are over! She hated getting behind in school (4 travel auditions!) and now she/we will just wait to hear from everyone!
thnx,

Hi badblonde, I had laryngitis at my Eastman audition so it was pretty much equivalent to not being there. They let me send in a recorded audition instead, and I sent in my pre-screenings because I was still not in-voice. So I feel your daughter’s pain!! There were only 12 undergraduate singers yesterday at Northwestern, and they told me that it was a lot fewer than normal. So I’m guessing that there were more that encountered the same problem. Best of luck to her! At least we’re done and can rest!

@soprano93 - see you got your JSM letter, too! congrats! I expected others might miss their NU auditions as well…D is so pleased to be finished w/ the travel … now she waits & gets back to a normal schedule…
thanks for the kind words, and good luck to you as well!
