@subtropicus I would question it since the student is entitled to the full COA- (bright futures + NMF) The $2400 your son is getting is the freshman scholarship which is merit aid and it comes form FSU, not the state. So your son should receive the FSU full COA- (3090+500). I do not believe the $2400 should enter into it. Those freshman scholarships were awarded at the time the kids were admitted and have nothing to do with NMF.
@saismom Thanks, I’ll look into it.
Just received the National Merit Scholarship on Son’s birthday! What a great present. Thank you Krista Scott and Max Mauney. I could hug you.
Good for you! Was it by email? D received an email bit it mainly was about the UF scholarship which she does not qualify for. She has a corporate. Is there anything else we need to do?
Email. No, it said something about not informing re FIS until funding is confirmed. I heard that last year some people didn’t hear anything until the $ arrived in their accounts!
I assume that since the FIS is not “verified” that we can’t request a payment deferment for housing? I just received the bill for the Fall semester for housing and it says deferments are only available for those that have a verified scholarship/financial aid of 4900 or more. The meal plan seems to be able to accept a deferment based on “predicted” aid. I guess I’ll go ahead and pay the housing bill and wait for the FIS to reimburse us. Is that what others plan to do?
ISIS Financial Aid info finally updated to reflect the FIS from the state and from National Merit ( daughter received a corporate scholarship and is not eligible for the UF scholarship. Good News!!! @Mobie101- you have already received a housing bill???
@saismom, we received the bill for housing for the fall semester via email. Also today we received an email from Krista Scott that said the potential recipients of the FIS can, indeed, submit for the payment deferment. A link was included in the email. If your FIS just appeared in your daughter’s account, it may take a few days for her to receive that email.
Did your daughter pick her room type and dorm on the housing website on the 16th? (I might have that date wrong) If so, I would think she would have gotten the housing bill, too. It was stated in the email that all communication regarding paying for housing would be via email only; there won’t be any paper bills arriving in the mail. I believe both my son and I received the housing email at our respective email addresses, so maybe check all of your email accounts to see if it is in there somewhere.
Yes, my D was assigned a date of May 16th at 1:00 but her roommate had an 11:00 slot so she "pulled my D into her room and it was accepted. I think the reason we have no bill is because we also have Florida Pre-paid?
Yes. We received the bill for summer but not for Fall due to prepaid. Older S had prepaid and we never received bills.
Thank you @saismom and @Cshecmia, for your responses. We do not have pre-paid for the housing, but we do for tuition. However, it does not show up at all on our ISIS page. I guess I should call UF to find out how to provide that info. I gather from previous posts that we can have our prepaid plan billed, and then the FIS monies given back into my son’s bank account. This seems like a good idea, at least for this first year, since the tuition cost for one year is approximately what we paid for the pre-paid plan for all 4 years! So in essence, we can get back our investment in the prepaid plan this first year, and then decide whether to have the prepaid plan billed in future years, or save it for grad school (I know it only pays at the undergrad rate, but it is still a good amount of money).
For anyone else interested, the housing deferment was simple–basically a couple of mouse clicks from the link provided and we were given a new due date of October 1st. So if the FIS money is not disbursed by then, we’ll have to pay and have the FIS pay us back later.
@Mobie101 From the ISIS page, scroll down to the left side and look for “additional aid reporting” that is where you can report the FL pre paid info. You will not see it reflected immediately but they will eventually update it. There is also an area in ISIS where you can “hold” FL pre-paid if you desire.
Thank you, @saismom. I guess the smartest thing to do is to add the prepaid plan and let it pay out, then get back the tuition money from the FIS. I’m almost afraid to click anywhere on the financial aid page for fear I might accidentally decline the FIS! (I think scholarships are accepted automatically, though, so it is probably not possible to accidentally decline it! )
Yikes, I was just in ISIS and I was at the page that was explaining all of the types of aid. At the bottom it had a button that said “display awards and disbursements” so I clicked it thinking it would take me back to the awards page and instead it took me to a page that said “thank you for submitting your changes”! I didn’t make any changes!! Hopefully I didn’t just do something weird. I hadn’t even added the FL prepaid or anything. I simply wanted to get back to the awards/disbursements page and it seemingly was incorrectly redirected. I think I will call tomorrow–I need to see how to add a small scholarship my son got from school. I saw a place to add it, but I want to make sure I do it correctly.
We were supposed to accept the $500 Uni scholarship on the portal, correct?
@Cshecmia, if you are referring to the NMSC portal, yes, you were supposed to accept the scholarship on there by a certain date. You should also have received an email from Krista Scott at UF regarding the scholarship that also had a required acceptance date. Then you should have received a follow-up hard copy of the scholarship offer from Ms. Scott in the mail.
Check. Check. Check. Thank you, @Mobie101. S registered at Preview last week and starts in 2 weeks. So excited!
You need to be a finalist and list the school as your first choice.
Has the FIS definitely been approved by the state legislature? Also, does anyone know how to get FL prepaid to pay out the full tuition amount? It is only paying the portion not covered by Bright Futures right now. I think I read somewhere that you can request to have the rest of this year’s money paid out, but has anyone actually done it?
Here’s a link to all of the forms used for the Florida Prepaid program.

There is a section on requesting a refund. I’m not sure what you’re looking to do, but they do have rules on how to retrieve funds from the plan.
The FIS was approved for 2015-2016, and folks are already seeing it in ISIS as being awarded. As long as the state doesn’t run into any budget issues in 2016 (or more folks that expected take advantage of the plan), I would think it will be approved for 2016-2017. The FIS is paid after Bright futures (and other scholarships) but before prepaid. In other words, having prepaid doesn’t reduce the FIS award amount.
