So I have a Florida Prepaid College fund with myself as the beneficiary. However, it is owned and maintained by my mother. I have read that is should be listed as an asset of the parent, but my mother is my NCP, so FAFSA does not ask for her assets. So do I not have to list the college fund on my FAFSA?

You do not need to list it on the FAFSA. However, next year (2015-2016 FAFSA) you will need to list the amount of the prepaid tuition paid in 2014-2015 as “Money received or paid on your behalf.”

So it sounds like if you are Pell-eligible, you’d be best off saving those funds for your senior year, if there isn’t more than a year’s worth in the fund. (I’m not all that familiar with the prepaid funds, so if I’m messing this up, hopefully someone will chime in to correct me.)

Okay, I figured the money paid on my behalf, but am glad I don’t have to report it now! But I have to include how much was paid Spring 2015 as well on my 2015-2016 FAFSA? I thought it only took what was paid out Fall 2014?

I think if your Spring 2015 tuition is paid in 2015, you’d wait and report that on your 2016-17 FAFSA. But if your tuition is due/paid in December 2014 for Spring 2015, then it would go on your 2015-16 FAFSA.

I should have an EFC of 0 under my father, so I should qualify for the full Pell. The Florida Prepaid pays for any four years of college tuition, including grad school according to the site. I am going to be attending either UF or UCF, both of which I qualify for in-state tuition and Florida Academic Scholars Bright Futures (Formerly the 100% one). Both i would also enter with 54 Credits as well. I am waiting on news for Merit Aid from UCF, but I am really not holding my breath, my GPA isn’t as good as it could be, but my ECs and ACT certainly help! I am waiting for Financial Aid packages to determine if we want to use the fund now our save it for when I go to Law School
