Florida State University- Mathematics For College Readiness??

Hi! I am a senior and I am finishing up all my applications. FSU is my absolute dream school! I am wondering if I have a decent shot of getting in. I am Hispanic and will be the first in my family to attend a university. I have about 120 volunteer hours, and am involved in a few extracurriculars. I got a 1700 composite on the SAT and a 26 on the ACT. I know my scores are not so great but I have taken both twice .I have taken pretty rigorous courses like Chemistry and Physics ; all Honors core classes, and a few AP’s. Though I excel in English and History, math is not my strongest suit.I am currently in Pre-Calculus Honors and I am struggling a bit. I scored well on my PERT math section, however I am considering switching over to Mathematics for College Readiness. Will this hurt my chances at all? I’m not sure if universities view this course negatively or not. I only need one more math credit to graduate, and I am thinking that taking a less difficult math course and maintaining my 4.0 GPA is a smarter choice than getting a D in Precalc. Any advice on what I should do would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!

I think they require four years on math through Algebra II. Unless you are applying for engineering or a scienec major that is probably ok. Talk to your guidance counselor or admissions to verify math requirements.

Thank you!

Call the college before you do anything. They prefer to see a more rigorous class passed, rather than switching to a clearly easier math course. If you can get help and pass it, that is what will look best.

^Thank you! I ended up deciding to stay in Pre Calc anyway, and get some tutoring. I am glad I did!
