Seems like typical reaction to the Shingrix shingle vaccine.
I had the regular under-65 flu shot in October and felt lousy for 24 hours. Scratchy throat and fatigue. About a week later I had a 24 hour cold. So weird. I had tested for COVID but was negative. I think it was a coincidence. DH and DS got their flu and boosters on the same day and had no reaction.
High-dose flu vaccines: How are they different from other flu vaccines? - Mayo Clinic.
I just had the regular flu shot and got it the same day as my latest booster. No real side effects from either.
Shots activate the immune system. It’s ok though maybe not pleasant that you might feel a little lousy from them!
Who is to say?
For me, this year’s flu shot was no different than prior year - essentially unnoticable.
Quite different from all of my CoViD jabs, where I have always been down the following day for about 12 hours running through every possible symptom - before it just vanished.
Wondered what this means, 2plustrio?
A friend who knows a ton of doctors said the ‘word’ is that the flu vaccine this year is very good at targeting the relevant strains…
Guillan Barre is a rare side effect seen after some vaccines. Odd that 3 employees from the same organization got it though after mandatory flu shot by said employer.
2plustrio - thanks! I did know it was a side-effect, but curious about the ‘admits’.
I am well over 65 but had the regular flu shot after talking with my doctor. The senior version is four times as strong as the regular shot and made me really sick a few years back. I suppose if this year’s match is good, it might be worth it to get that sick, but I have things to do this week. No side effects as yet at the 24 hour mark.
My doctor told me to get the flu vaccine in October, and the covid bivalent booster in November. I didn’t listen, and got the bivalent booster at the end of October (making my series MMPPP). I got my first dose of the senior flu vaccine last week. Not really different in terms of reactions from from the other flu vaccines I’ve gotten in the past. I know I could have gotten the covid booster and the flu vaccine at the same time, but I didn’t want to do that.
Interesting, my doc said don’t get shingle vax & COVID at same time. I get a little leery combining vaxes (but know others have handled it well)…
A few years ago, I got my 2nd Shingrix shot and the flu vaccine at the same time. I think I was tired the next day (and one arm was sorer, but I don’t remember which shot that arm got), but that was it. For my H, the 2nd? Shingrix shot was a lot worse than any of his Covid shots. He wouldn’t have done well to have gotten the Shingrix and flu vaccines at the same time.
I got a flu shot last week & didn’t have any issues. I keep putting off my shingles vaccine, and I don’t want to combine it with another vaccine. I want to be sure I know what shot caused any side effects I might get.
kelsmom - I think you’re smart to do that. Shingrex was rough (for me)!
Got the flu shot in late September. Had flu A 2 weeks ago. Two colleagues at work also tested positive for flu A, both vaccinated as well. May not be a good match this year, at least for A.
Flu fax (senior citizen strength) and latest Covid booster at the same time–no problems. Last week, I went for my annual check up and my doc suggested a pneumonia vaccination, which (I think she said) is good for 10 years? Got that one too.
As rough as the Shingrix shots could have been (mine weren’t so bad), reaction to the vaccine could never be as rough as when my poor wife contracted shingles about a decade ago.
Right then and there I decided that I wanted no part in shingles. Got the vaccine the same day my PCP recommended that I do so.
People who I’ve known to contract shingles say the same- unpleasant, painful.
No problem here w/ flu vaccine or booster although I did not do them together.
My mom & her aunt both had terrible cases of shingles. My S had a relatively mild, but not fun, case in college. I don’t want them, but for various reasons, I keep putting off the vaccine. I will do it soon, because the alternative isn’t something I want to deal with.
“ The Pneumovax 23 covers twenty three different variants of the pneumococcal bacteria. In healthy adults, revaccination is not indicated (necessary). Patients with underlying chronic disease should probably be revaccinated every 5 years.”
I had both the Shingrix and flu shoots about a month ago without any significant reaction. Not sure that is a good sign. Anyway, I will finally get the bivalent booster today since it wasn’t available via my health provider when I last tried.
