Fluctuation in Grades Through High School

Right now I'm a junior in high school and I am a little worried about my grades for college admissions--- my freshman grades were horrendous, and then I raised them by about 1.7 sophomore year, and this year I am hoping to get straight A's- is this massive rise in my grades going to look good or bad for college transcripts? I know that anywhere I apply to are going to focus on this years grades the most- but is it something they may take into consideration? I have just had a massive burst of motivation these past couple years- there isn't any other reason my grades are so inconsistent.

Thank you!

For the most selective school, you are not going to be in the picture as there are plenty of candidates that are 4.0 all the way through. But some schools will take that into consideration and if you have high test scores, you won’t be knocked out because of a bad freshman year. Some colleges like Stanford, don’t even take freshman year grades into the picture. An improving trend is a good thing, but a consistently excellent one even better, so you’'ll be behind those kids but ahead of those who remain inconsisitent even if the final gpa is better than yours.
