Flunked out of grad school last semester.

I failed three classes and got "dismissed". I was studying computer science. It was because I took a job last semester and got caught up with work and neglected my classes. And as some may know, computer science grad school can get pretty intensive. I got overwhelmed you could say.

I've been pretty depressed for the past few months. Does anyone have any advice for a guy down on his luck?

I mean, is this the end of my college career, as I know it? Is there anyway I could get a college acceptance committee to give me a second chance?

You have a job, I would concentrate on that.

It seems you already made the decision to concentrate on your job instead of school anyway.

Do you really need a Masters or PhD?

Also, I wouldn’t say you were “down on your luck”. Your position is a result of your own actions for which you were completely in control of. You chose not to do the work required for your grad school classes. You chose to work a job that would interfere with your schooling.

I would reserve the “down on your luck” classifications for those that had no control of their own situations.

Just work hard at your job. Jobs are more valuable than college degrees in the current economic climate.

You can likely petition for readmission at some point in the future, or apply elsewhere. To have any chance of being readmitted, you likely need to wait at least a year, perhaps longer, before making that petition. You’ll need to explain how things will be different in your second attempt - take fewer classes or work fewer hours, for example.

Thanks OminousRun and polarscribe for the kind words. You’re right, I’d rather work right now than take graduate courses. I want to go back to graduate school eventually when I have a better plan. Just now, I have to deal with a ****ed up transcript.

You got a job in this recession years, why are you “down on his luck”? :D

And the job seems pretty important to you too (why else do you got “caught up”)

Continue the job since it interest u more, later u can go get your master no problem with all the work experience you have :)
