FLVS AP Class Reviews

Does anyone have any recent experience with APUSH, AP Lang and Lit and AP Govnt at FLVS? Specifically, I’m hoping someone can tell us if they felt prepared for the exam, was there unnecessary busywork, what was the level difficulty, was it interesting? I saw the 2011 thread, but I was hoping to get more recent information. Thanks.

Bumping to try again.

I just finished AP Government and Politics with a B today! I would have to agree with what was said in the 2011 thread. Good lord, the class wasn’t hard at all, it was just super annoying. The written lessons weren’t all that helpful. You’re basically forced read the online textbook (which has a lot of typos??? I found that odd because… it’s a textbook…) to pass the quizzes, because the questions are sosososo unnecessarily specific. It’s extremely tedious trying to finish them because the questions will ask you for details from the reading that didn’t appear to be important whatsoever. I feel like the teachers purposely put those specific questions in there just to see if you actually read, like a cruel game of where’s waldo. I mean, the free response questions/essay assignments were so much easier!! I would get 100’s on the essays and 60’s on those stupid quizzes.

If you have the time, ATTEND THE LIVE LESSONS. I didn’t attend them frequently, but the ones that I did attend were extremely useful. Like I said before, the written lessons aren’t helpful. Plus, the textbook barely goes over the actual concepts of whatever topic you’re reading. It basically lists definitions and facts about the government and its past. The live lessons however, DID go over the conceptual aspects of what you learn. They just make it a lot easier to put the definitions into perspective.

I haven’t taken the AP test yet, but I looked at the practice questions that the College Board offers for this class and I would have to say that they were a million times easier than the questions you have to answer in the course itself. I was actually scared because I felt as if I wouldn’t be prepared for the AP exam but… I think I’m okay, based off of those practice questions. I’m literally taking the exam tomorrow, so if I remember to, I’ll let you know how it went.

Overall, I wouldn’t say I regret taking this course. If you’ve taken an AP class before and you’re thinking about taking this one, I would just go for it. The work can be tedious and extra as heck, which is annoying, yes, but if you’re serious about college and getting those extra AP points for your GPA then the fact that this class is annoying shouldn’t affect your performance. Keep in mind, I’m not all that great with academics - I’m a C/B average student - so if I got through it then you most likely can too. Good luck!!!

ALSO: if anyone has taken AP Lit on FLVS please give your experience, as it is very much appreciated!
