I take FlVS courses for the benefit of free classes, and learning.
However I know some people who take online classes ''Just'' so they can raise their GPA. Is this nessecary? Do many people do this? Does it look good on your college app?

I tend to take FLVS classes because some of the classes my school offers are sub-par. I also took two other classes, World History and Health, because I couldn't stand to sit through the regular classes for a whole semester, so I just wanted to get them over with faster. I only know a few people that have taken an extra FLVS class to pull up their grade, but for me the limited amount of high-level FLVS classes wouldn't help with an AP-saturated courseload.

I spend about more than half of my school day in online courses. Perhaps my insight would be of some use. For background, this semester I am taking online:
Honors German III (Oklahoma State University), Cultural Anthropology and Sociology 101 (University of North Carolina.) The last two give me college credit, by the way.

I do not know of people taking online courses to boost GPA, only to take classes that normal high school would not allow.

Online courses look as good as regular classes with a good grade, if not better. Online courses take more maturity and discipline compared to regular classes.

at my school in order to be in the top 10 you probably need to take at least 1 or 2 AP classes online per year. so yeah, quite a few people take online classes to boost their GPAs
