ive been thinking of applying to the FOCUS program

but part of the deal with the focus prog is that they might house you in a dorm that you have not listed as your preference. i do not, under any circumstances want to be housed in Brown. So could anyone tell me where the FOCUS progs have been traditionally been held?

no FOCUS in Brown, and if you don't check substance free on your form, they won't put you in Brown. In fact, they had too many people in Brown this year.

There is no real "best" because every year, as Amused mentioned, the people in each dorm change. And don't judge the type of person in each dorm by its focus program, as the overwhelming majority of the students living in it were randomly put there.

Try not to get hung up on dorms, and definitely don't let it affect your decision. Additionally, Genome Revolution is in Bassett and people enjoyed it/worked their asses off. Humanitarian Challenges is in GA (Gilbert-Addoms) and friends of mine LOVED it.

once again, the key thing is, if you do a FOCUS program, only do it because you LOVE the topic.

turns out my year was the only one that didn't have the Middle Eastern FOCUS....hence, there weren't any that interested me and I didn't do FOCUS. no regrets here.

Nothings wrong with Brown.
It's the substance-free dorm (no smoking, drinking, drugs for its residence in or out of the dorm or else you're kicked out). Many college students do not follow this lifestyle though.

The arts in the contemporary age one is a new focus program... or at least it didn't exist this past year.

PS- they house Modern America (slacker focus) in Pegram which annually has a reputation of being an amazing dorm. Far from the bus stop, but oh so worth the hike :)

Almost all the dorms you go to will have a great social scene... the only two that I can think of with much difference is Brown (substance-free) and Jarvis (single-sex, by floor). So because those two house a specific type of people, they cannot and do not house any FOCUS programs.
From what I know, this year the FOCUS programs were as follows:
Gilbert-Addoms: Humanitarian Challenges and Power of Ideas
Southgate: Exploring the Mind
Pegram: Modern America
Basset: The Genome Revolution
Blackwell (A/C): Constructing Cultures
Alspaugh: the Russian Focus
...and that's all I know. There is still Randolph, Giles, Wilson and Aycock.
Yeah, and only do FOCUS if you are interested in it.
