Follow me through my academic journey! (Finishing HS to CCC to 4-Year University!)

Hi!

I don’t know if College Confidential is really the place to be posting this sort of material; however, after reading a lot of forums on community college success stories and other interesting college experiences on here, I thought I’d do a bit of my own posting about my current and future academic endeavors.

I will be updating this periodically with updates on my academic development (GPA per semester, classes I’m taking, what’s my major, what school I’m attending, etc.)

I’m doing this mainly for my own records (I think it’ll be interesting to look back on this)and to share my experience (which will hopefully be interesting/helpful).

Without further ado...

HS Background Information

Total Weighted GPA: 3.4773
Total Unweighted GPA: 3.1818
Current Class Schedule: Regular World Literature, College Prep Mathematics, AP Spanish 5, AP Psychology, AP Art History (same as first semester; I didn’t drop any classes)
Current ECs/Non-Academic Courses: Business Internship and Retail, Sales, and Merchandising Internship
Comments: Senioritis is hitting me hard. It’s been a struggle just to show up to class. I’m not as on top of my HW as I would like to be. This is the hardest/most rigorous class schedule that I’ve had my entire HS career. I can’t get by doing mediocre/minimal work. I did the best I’ve ever done last semester (A’s in 3 of my classes, B+'s (~89%) in 2). I would like to continue this upward trend in my academic performance (and also clear the boatload of missing assignments that I have in each class, haha.)

Future Plans
School Attending in Fall 2015: CCC (Probably IVC, also checking out OCC and Saddleback)
Desired Major: Finance (or Business Administration with a focus on finance) and Statistics; Minor in Spanish and possibly Art History
Desired School: UCB (TAP), UCSB (TAG program); in terms of privates: USC (possible sophomore transfer (?)), NYU

Comments: I'm actually really excited/happy and looking forward to attending a community college. I definitely think there will be a part of me that totally feels like crap because all my friends are heading off to prestigious universities; however, I just gotta keep my eyes on the prize! I could've attended SFSU but decided against it because: (1) I wanted to save $$ as I am paying for college myself (2) I don't think I have the maturity or study skills to handle the kind of independence/discipline a university requires (3) I still don't know EXACTLY what I want to do/major in (4) I don't think I'm ready to leave home yet.

Will update with a new post soon!

There’s nothing wrong with your plan. It works for THOUSANDS of students each year. It takes a very mature outlook to recognize you have some work to do before you can excel at that level. (many moons ago I was in the same boat - me and most of my peers turned out fine) Staying home and saving $ is a great way to start your college experience. TAG to UCSB is a great plan - This sounds silly but, be sure you take the exact classes they are looking for - lots sound the similar but, aren’t. Try to balance your schedule so you can keep your GPA in the 3.4 - 3.6 range. Stay focused and be flexible.

I look forward to reading about your progress.
