Food to Bring to College

I want to bring a lot of food with me to college to replace lunch since I'm only going to eat breakfast and dinner in the dining halls everyday. I'm a vegetarian and I can't cook for carrotsticks, and I like healthy things.

What are some things I should buy from the local grocery store or walmart to bring with me? I'm thinking lots of bars and popcorn and other things.

My brother took 2 pounds of roasted unsalted pecans with him when he went back to school yesterday.

Bars, popcorn, maybe some nuts as well.

If you’re gonna have a minifridge in your dorm, maybe you could buy some stuff like hummus and other spreads at a nearby store as well as some veggies and make yourself sandwiches.

Pretzels, popcorn, canned soup, bananas, cliff bars. My roommate eats slices of cheese (you buy like a big block and cut it into smaller pieces).

Brocilli, Spinach, Fried Eggplant, Carrots, Tomatoes, Corn, etc. mhmm delicious

Museli and rice milk if you have a mini fridge :)

I have four pounds of bulk roasted almonds in my room. Totally worth it.

Anything Annie’s makes, Honey Roasted Almonds are my savior, Granola Bars, Chips and Hummus is also a great idea. Cups of soup are also awesome, as well as cups of Ravioli and things of that nature (Annie’s has great cheese ravioli).

Warm up a tin of soup in the microwave (take it out of the tin first, and put it in a bowl!) and then put it into a food thermos and take it with you, possibly alongside a bread roll.

Still, you are going to have to learn how to cook sooner or later. There are some really good student cookbooks out there, which explain everything from scratch.

My daughter is a vegetarian too. I assume since you mention cooking that you have some facilities available to you. Buy a Fasta Pasta - really clear instructions to make a small amount of pasta quickly and safely in a microwave - and a jar of sauce. Try peanut butter and jelly (or banana or fluff) sandwiches. Barilla, Hormel, and Annie’s make a lot of different meatless microwaveable meals. Campbell’s and others make microwaveable soups in ready-to-eat containers. Uncle Ben’s makes microwave-in-the bag flavored rices and Bird’s Eye makes microwave-inthe-bag vegetables. There is always the college student standby - ramen. If you have a refrigerator, all supermarkets carry what I call salad-in-a-bag and pre-sliced ready-to-eat fruit. Good Luck!
