Football Games

For everyone going to Cal (or any UC with a football team) are you guys getting season tickets to the football games? Is this like something everyone does, or is it just something some people who are into it do? I don't know if I can see myself going to the games, but I don't really want to be left out if it's like a really social experience that will help you meet people.

Probably just Oct 18 vs. UCLA and Nov 22 vs. Stanford.

Nov 22 is the one you don’t want to miss :smiley:

Ok thanks, I will consider that. So I’m guessing the football games aren’t like an essential aspect of the social scene though?

I know absolutely nothing about american football, but I will still share my input. When I was in 7th grade, my school took me to a UCLA vs ASU football game, and from the looks of it, there where many types of people. Most people were not UCLA students, so I don’t think it really counts as a UCLA social experience. I saw many older people and families.

Ahem, looks at avatar. Ahaha, of course I had to purchase my Den Pass as soon as I was accepted to UCLA. I have been a UCLA season football ticket holder for the past 4 years. Watching the thousands of students in the student section perform the UCLA 8-clap in unison never ceases to amaze me. I just love the school spirit.

I would not say it is essential to go to a football game as there are tons of other opportunities to socialize at both schools, however I can guarantee that you will enjoy yourself even if you do not know much about the sport.

I like football, although I don’t follow college football too much. Do you think games are a place where you would meet people or like go with friends?

@music1990‌

I previously went to the football games with my family and friends, many of whom were alum. However, I have never once had an issue with meeting and chatting it up with other people at the game. Everyone’s there to have a good time and enjoy themselves, so if you do too I’m sure you’ll make some friends. I can’t imagine that it’d be any different in the student section–plus you’re surrounded by hundreds of your peers lol.

Short Answer–you can’t go wrong either way.

OK, thanks. I think I will get season tickets because they aren’t too expensive, and it seems like an exciting experience. When you see games on TV, the kids are going sooo crazy. It’s hard to imagine getting that into it but we’ll see!

The Student Section is the heart and soul of college football! It’s hard not to get excited and start screaming when the other 50,000 people around you are doing it too :). I would label myself as a someone who keeps to himself or usually quiet, but I’m a completely different person at college football games.

Anyway, as the other posters have already said… at least go to Cal vs. Stanford if you aren’t going to purchase season tickets. There is something about rivalry games that gets everyone’s blood pumping like nothing else. Hope you enjoy yourself!

@OCaptnMyCaptn‌ what is the best way for students to get tickets to a game? The UCLA Parent group sent me a save the date for Parents Weekend Oct 31-Nov 2 and said they would have discount tickets for Rose Bowl game against Arizona. So I was wondering if I should buy some for my daughter and her friends, but my daughter said they can get them on campus. Plus, I am not sure if students are in a special section. – I guess they are based on what you said…

Hey I know this thread is kinda old but I’m just bumping it to see if any Cal transfers are getting season tickets. I still haven’t decided. What do you guys think?

Cal football?? you realize that UCLA is going to kick you ass at Memorial stadium… sorry for the tone but everyone up in westwood is really exited for football season… UCLA is ranked # 6 in the nation and this might be the year we beat Oregon, Stanford and win the PAC 12… there is a lot of hype this season

btw, I will probably make the trip to Memorial stadium on OCT 18th

Let’s hope we beat those Berkeley Bears, @dagoberto!!

But the real fun begins when UCLA faces off against vile Trojans and beats their ass. >:)

Im not even worried about them this year (ok, maybe a little)… It felt so good wearing UCLA colors at the coliseum and watching the look on their faces was priceless.

@Cayton @Dagoberto‌

Yeah? Bring it bit%$ UCLA will be a disappointment as usual. Just kidding I have no idea what I’m talking about. That was just my attempt at talking trash. I hope they win all their games except against Cal.

@music1990‌

And I hope you guys beat the ■■■■ out of Stanford this fall. :D

Historically, UCLA has played horribly at Cal… they have lost the last 7 games there. That won’t be the case this year though ;)

@OCaptnMyCaptn‌

Our football team has gotten better, and our basketball team is still great.

UCLA already has the most NCAA titles…we will become unstoppable now. :D

@Cayton‌

Lol thanks for the support man. I’m not really too competitive about this kind of thing, but I like how sports unify people.

@OCaptnMyCaptn‌

Oh I seeee. Well good luck to you guys then. But in all seriousness I don’t care too much who wins. As long as everyone has fun. Maybe we will tie lol. We are all brothers and sisters of the University of California :)
