foothills triple

so i got a triple in foothills, an from what i saw online, they seem pretty spacious with seperate beds, etc. but then i saw a youtube video where the triple was basically as small as a triple in the units (converted double). which is correct? which is more common? cuz id hate to pay so much more for foothills when its the same at the units.

The Foothill dorm triples are definitely bigger than the Units. From the tour that we got on Cal Day, there will be 3 single beds rather than a bed and a bunk for a triple. In fact, you probably will be in a suite where you only share the bathroom with the other bedroom mates in the suite (as opposed to a whole floor).

Also you’ll definitely be in good shape soon, with all the uphill climbing you’re going to do.

@ProfessorPlum168 so ther aren’t really doubles converted into cramped triples?

The cramped triples are at the Units (1,2,3)
Blackwell is all doubles
I don’t think Foothill has any bunks. Unless perhaps there is a quad.

I lived in a triple in foothill this past year and it was a converted double with bunks. It was much smaller than many doubles in the units. Some others had triples that were bigger, but most of the triples in foothill are of the bunk bed variety. The only triples in foothill that are spacious and have separate beds are located on the first floor, where there are a lot of mice and rats. So its pretty much a lose-lose situation.

So @mdg24 There are mice and rats in Berkeley housing? Is it campus controlled housing or off campus? Does the University try to take care of this? What was it like when you were there?

When we took the Foothill tour, the RAs all stated that the triples were 3 separate beds. In fact, that was the room that was shown to us - a triple and a single in a suite.

@readthetealeaves it depends where you live. Unit 3 has rat and mice problems pretty often, which the university does not really deal with. At foothill, there were mice on the first floor rooms. After a long rain, however, even people on the second and third floors would report mice sightings.

If you keep your room exceptionally clean (i.e. not a single crumb of food) you can avoid the mice in foothill. It is campus controlled housing, and the university definitely does not try to take care of it. When I was there, I lived on the third floor in a triple that was not super clean but not messy either, and I had to deal with mice occasionally.

@mdg24 thank you for the info on that, could be a deal breaker for some

@mdg24 I got placed in building 2 at foothill. You know anything about triples there?
