For All Those of You Ranked #1 (or close)

i'm ranked number 10 right now, but i know that two of the people ahead of me are taking one less honors class than me which will help me hopefully. lol. i guess i'm playing the game but i want to be 6-7

That's a good thing. Just try to make all A's and hope (I know that sounds terrible) that they wind up with a B, and that should move you up. Of course, you never know who's on your tail trying to catch up with you. Oh, I remember the number's game with my D's class. Good times! :)

GreendayFan, you argued with me, it doesn't matter how many honors or AP classes you have. Then why are you stating they are taking 1 less honors class than you? See, because it matters.

Also, I've taken most of the classes I've needed to. Just more practice and new vocabulary words for the "English" section.

I didnt say it "didnt matter how many APs you take". I said you dont have to take all of them. And that's true. And i also was implying that you dont have to take more than your school offers.

Yes, you did. Saying You don't have to have all honors is saying the number doesn't matter because you're taking less if you don't take all.

Who takes more than their school offers? A rare person.

deja vu. is this the sequel to the grade detriments thread?

No, i didnt. Im all about taking a rigorous schedule, but I'm not gonna petition the schoolboard or anything to take AP classes when my schedule (all honors) is already really difficult/hardest schedule possible for sophomores. Whatever. all you do is argue and you just insist you're always right so I'm done arguing with you KID.

The collegeboard pays me to take there AP tests.

Heres all I have to say to you Masterus:

The title of this board is High School Life

Are you in high school? No not yet

Unless you are going to ask questions about high school, then stop acting as if you know everything and stop giving advice to people because it surely isn't going to help... because you have no clue what you are talking about.

As for taking AP test on subjects that aren't offered at your school, it depends on the situation, I'm thinking about it because my school only offers 4 and I learn from a book well.

Now to the original question, my best advice is not to worry about your rank. I have no clue where I stand (although it is probably within the top 5), but right now I don't care, just try to do your best and don't stress about your standing, instead take the time to study or enjoy yourself!

I've been in High School for 2 years. I've taken High school classes for 2 years. I've learned and been taught at the High School. That's High School Life. Tell that to every other incoming freshman in this forum.

ok so i think you need to chillax. i have a friend whose entire purpose in life is ending up 1st in the class... she is not a very happy person. take difficult classes, but make sure your interested. work hard, study hard and get good grades, but remember there is much more to high school than just studying. participate in activities that you like because just being 1st in your class isnt a pass to harvard. have a little time to sleep, eat, and do other necessary functions and enjoy life!

I don't need to kill my life to be number 1 ,but I will take more time from it for EC's.

I'm about to be a sophmore, and my freshmen year I was tied for 1 out of 650ish with about 10 other people. I don't think any of us actually had to work for that rank though. 9th grade was a breeze. I got straight A's with marginal effort.

Redwood, your attitude will backfire. #1s don't "try" to be number #1, they just do what comes naturally to them because of their intelligence, intellectual curiosity, and work ethic. Moreover, you won't get into an Ivy by padding your resume the last two years with a sudden flurry of volunteerism, internships, and other activities. Find what you are passionate about, and concentrate your effort on that. Yes, there are vals and sals that get in, but not all of them, so you can't count on it. Many vals and sals get turned down by the Ivys in favor of really smart, interesting students who not only have the grades and test scores but who found something that honestly excited them and took advantage of opportunities to develop that passion. I am definitely not saying you should slack off if you want to be #1--I am just saying you should change your focus to discovering what excites you and going for it. If you have the brainpower and work ethic, the grades and scores will take care of themselves. Good luck.

Lets see:

Dont have a social life
Dont see the sun for another three years
Dont sleep
Dont watch tv
Dont know that girls dont have cooties
Study each subject for 4 hours a day

Done.

I am rank 1 but my school is a poor public high school so it's not that great.

Gaa

can you give me an example of something like this

at my school, rank all depends on how many APs you take - it's on a weighted scale so we pile on a ton of APs. the thing that distinguishes the ppl btwn top 5 and top 10 is the ability to get all A's in about 6 APs and get all 5's on the AP exams. to get good grades, work on time management... i learned to be SO efficient - i can do 6 APs' worth of hw in 2 hours every night. also, learn to budget your time - if you have a solid A in math, focus on that A-/B+ in english or something. i'm ranked 4 or 5 and i was able to pull it all off while maintaining a boyfriend and going out every weekend and spending 2 hours after school with him everyday. it's definitely possible to have fun and "see the sun" while still keeping a high rank. in fact, junior year was probably one of the best years i've had.
