I totally understand the feeling. My friend has been spamming my phone about questions with UCI and their financial aid, etc.

So I decided to write a little thread for all those who feel like their stomach is about to fall out of their body.

Last year, I was just like the rest of you. Waiting to hear back from colleges and dying to hear back from my #1 choice. During that time, I realized that I became obsessed with this website and instead of studying, I would check this site nonstop. I know that the wait is killing you, but all I have to say is that you should be incredibly proud. You've made it this far and no matter what school you get into, you'll do great things whichever school you choose to go to.

I think that around this time, a form of 'senioritis' hit me.. and all that consumed me was the announcement of UCLA's admission decision. Don't let it happen to you. Keep focus on school and just continue to strive to get straight A's.

The date won't change on when these universities will release their decision. I know Cal should be on April 30th, right? UCLA should be around the third week of April.. and UCI, UCSD, and UCSB should release their decision by the end of this month. Don't fret, just enjoy CCCs... because when you transfer, you'll miss aspects of it.

Even though I'm at UCLA enjoying myself, I miss how easy and relaxed the environment was at CCCs. When you get to your 'dream college', it'll be 297292892809x more competitive and you'll realize that these professors don't care about teaching you (unless you are a science major). So enjoy your final year of CCCs, because sooner or later, the UC lifestyle will consume you!

I’m waiting anxiously myself, but cannot afford to check this site non-stop. I’m burning on my butt already with all the school work I still need to cope with.

By the way, did you get your admissions early last year? May I ask what is your major and why do you think you made it to LA?

Thanks for the post. This really encourages me to focus harder on my school work.
I have one question. Do you think getting C in Cal3 will rescind my acceptance in UCLA IF I get accepted in April? I just wanna know. I’ll try my best to get B, but just in case if I don’t…

What UCLA kitty said is sooo true; my first office hour session at cal started like this:
Me (A Math major): Professor I have never been exposed to proofs and Im having a little bit of trouble with the HW.
Professor: Well if you’ve never been exposed to proofs, thats the last thing you need to worry about.
Me: Uh…okay; can you help me with the HW? I don’t understand Commutative Rings and Integral domains
Professor: Alright, what’s the first thing you do?
Me: Prove the axioms and state the element identity? (The ONLY THING STATED IN THE TEXT BOOK)
Professor: Right! I can no longer kick you, next person! (He LITERALLY said “kick”???)
Next Person: Proffesor, i don’t understand what you said about the slylow therom, its explain at the end of the book and i think its covered later on (as in not in our course)
Professor: I see, i went backwards in the book, its okay! We’ll go from here
(Everyone except the freshman[<—is crazy how humble those geniuses are!] in a honors junior level class was confused)
I was thinking like: wttttttttf???; the moral of the story is that Professors will really not care if you don’t understand it; everything is up to you—in CCC I LOVED the math ( or any others) tutoring centers. It all worked out fine, looking back a year later, but it is such a difference from CCC, and you’ll love how you change (its just a *****) :)

Not even science majors get great treatment from professors. My bf is a envi. science major at UCR and he hasn’t ever interacted with his profs, let alone do they give two sh-ts about whether or not you succeed. They just want to get published, work on their own research and teach a couple of classes. Don’t get me wrong though, they work super hard to do what they do and I admire anyone who is a research professor. I don’t blame them for not taking tons of time out for their students. We are expected to be on top of it, which is why we are being admitted into UC schools in the first place.

My experience has been completely different regarding professors at UCSD. Out of the 12 classes I have taken so far, I’ve gone to office hours at least once for 4 of them. Each of the four professors was approachable and eager to help.

I don’t think it is fair to use generalities and say all research professors hate teaching and dealing with students. Are there some like that? More than likely. But is it the norm? I highly doubt it.

What I meant to say about Science students is that… even at CCCs, science students usually don’t get the love like humanities majors do… lol, but it becomes worse at UCLA for science students… as for office hours, yes… that’s really the only time they’ll give you a chance… WHEN YOU MAKE THE EFFORT. it’s really sad that it’s not a great experience inside and outside the class, like most CCC classes I took… but these professors place more emphasis on their research. teaching these classes are something they need to do in order to continue with their research. there is the rare case that you may find a professor that is like CCCs professors.

Gattacamz – as for me… i applied as an Asian American studies major with a 3.6 GPA. I enrolled and am now a double major in both Asian American studies and Psychobiology. I think I made it into UCLA because of how well-rounded I was. I studied my ass off, worked 25-30 hours at a bank, and still had time to play tennis for my community college team. I stressed in my personal statements that I was a very hard-working and dedicated to everything I took on in my life.

As for ucwannabee – try your hardest to get a B. I mean a C won’t look awful, but a B is better. If you get in, I don’t think they’ll rescind your acceptance, but you want to look competitive with others.

As for CCCs professors vs. UC professors… this is how I see it. CCC professors are usually there because they want to teach the subject they are passionate about. They want to give you everything they love about their topic… Their goal is to show you their passion about a particular topic, and hopefully you can become passionate as well. As for UC professors, they are passionate… but for a different reason. They are very passionate about their research, and they can spend hours and hours doing research. I’m not saying that all UC professors are like this, but I can say a handful are at most UC’s.

@UCLAKitty How is the process like to switch or do a double major? I was thinking if I got in with my Applied Math major, that I would switch to Cognitive Science or Psychobiology and instead just minor in math but it seems like it would be really hard for me to do that.

It’s incredibly difficult. I don’t know how I was able to argue my way into, especially being an Asian Am major. They just made everything incredibly difficult, but with the help of Psych professors and LS professors, I was able to do it. Yeah, but if you really want to do it… nothing is impossible…

I just don’t want to end up going there and then being stuck. That would be the worst! Any tips for if I want to do it? How did you argue your way in?
