You have applied, now the best thing to do is relax.

I know you guys all know this, and you don't need me to tell you, but relax!

You guys have finished your fall semester/quarter at CC, and some of you have only one more to go.
Just focus on finishing up the last of your pre-reqs, and your IGETC. Do well! YOU CAN DO THIS!

In January, there is an application update, and that is all that's left before you wait for the admissions to come and you make your big decision where to go! You're almost at the end of the process.

I spent countless hours worrying and worrying about transferring, but once I went through the application process, I realized that I had been stressing out for no reason. In hindsight, I should have not thought too much about whether I would be accepted/rejected. Instead, I should have focused on just doing well academically and enjoying community college. It was so simple compared to UCI!

Please don't make the same mistake I did and stress too much. I don't mean that all stress is bad, though. Just keep it under control. Good luck with admissions next year.

Here's a bit about me, if you're curious:
Fall 2013 transfer
Major: Business Econ
CC GPA: 3.95
Applied to: UCI, UCSD, UCLA, UCSB
Accepted to: UCI, UCSD, UCSB. I chose UCI.
Rejected from: UCLA

I’m curious about the details.

How many units did you take a semester? What was the one class you got in a B in? What were your personal statements?

I took only 3 classes (12 units) a semester. For one semester, I took 5 classes, and that was highest amount I ever took.

The one class I got a B in was Calculus 1. It was a bummer, because it ruined my 4.0 GPA, but one B doesn’t kill off your chances of admissions. =)

I had “OK” personal statements. I wrote about volunteering at the library, my goals, why I chose Business Econ, etc.

Why do you think you got rejected from UCLA?

I am pretty sure why I got rejected: UCLA’s Business Econ requires you to finish two semesters of Accounting by the spring before transferring, and I only finished one.

How many pre-reqs did you miss for UCLA?

That was it. Just that one accounting course!

UCLA is very particular about pre-requisites.

That’s a really good GPA. Congrats on UCI. So do you plan on going to grad school?

Thank you! It was a lot of hard work keeping that GPA up.

No, I don’t plan on going to grad school. I just want to get my BA first. XP

I have to remind myself to relax every day. I think I’m constantly on College Confidential, watching youtube videos from UCLA and UCSB (my two top picks), browsing assist.org (for no reason; I have half that site memorized), or looking at the UCLA Financial Actuarial Math requirements.

BLAHHHHH Just gotta focus on what’s important: accounting, programming, and math! I’m actually taking Exam P on January tenth. I should be studying for that.

*opens assist.org

^^ I did the same thing! I drove myself crazy looking through websites like that. Most of the information on there was stuff I already knew!

All we have to do is take it easy Gents. If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be. All i know that I will be at a New school come next fall no matter where it’s at.

Good luck to us all.

^^ Yes, and even if its not your dream school, you will come to love it.

Remember, the last couple of semesters at your CC are crucial. Now is the time to excel.

@kb4692 How is life at UCI? I heard it has a commuter school feel. Is that true? Gimme as much details as possible.

It does have a slight commuter feel, I guess. I am one myself. But, I see lots of people getting off campus shuttles from various campus apartments, so not EVERYONE commutes.

I’m pretty much a loner. I don’t know about the social life, and who commutes and who doesn’t.

I do like it in Irvine, though. There are lots of places to shop and eat, and it’s a very quiet city. It gets boring after a while, but it is a suburb, you know.
