Employers, colleges and governments are watching you, collecting data on you and can fire you, not hire you, not admit you, discipline you and even bar you from entering the country!

I am no friend of socialnetworking sites. Never have been. Because you lose too much privacy, even if you THINK you have privacy walls, you DONT. Facebook has sold your name and information to retailers! Fact.

Your friends and others may be "saving" information and pictures you think are deleted. And old boyfriends and girlfriends are popping up at inopportune times to embarrass you and even bring you harm. My advice? DELETE YOUR ACCOUNTS AND GET OFF THEM NOW.

DELETE ALL YOUR INFORMATION AND PHOTOS NOW.

Just don’t post embarrassing things. Don’t post private things. Don’t post things you don’t want everybody else in the world to know. And you’re totally fine.

I’m hoping that they check my facebook. I am quite proud of it. I always write in complete, grammatically correct sentences, and I write out all of my words. I tranlate German musicals to English and post my translations on my facebook page. I never swear. I am very polite to all of my friends. I don’t use any of the games, and all of the pictures of me are perfectly respectable.

Agreed…generally. But its deeper than that. The company you keep is also a factor. Guilt by association. Just saying. Kids and new agers often think this is wonderful, but in reality its a very dangerous world out there and its really better not to post at all. Then again, I am a parent and from the old school. You do as you please, but be warned.

What most people don’t realize is that people all over the world can snoop. Just because you have a privacy wall doesnt mean they aren’t breaking in.

Then congratulations and keep up the good work. Unfortunately millions of others are not so careful and put up all sorts of things. I know of cases where ex boyfriends and girlfriends spread all sorts of rumors about people and it was very harmful to people’s reputations. If you don’t have an account, they can’t tell the universe (and employers, schools etc), they can only gossip about you to their friends.

No need to be so sensationalist. If you have the same sort of fears about not being able to erase the past you might as well get off CC as well since you can’t delete old posts.

It makes me wonder however what would happen if a teenage Facebook user of today were to eventually make a bid for a position in politics. Opponents would be able to dig up a lot more stuff than the high school years of today’s politicians.

I don’t post anything on my FB wall I would be ashamed of, including all of my photos, if all of it became public. I derive too much pleasure and utility out my FB friends and connections to delete it for the reasons cited in the article.

On further reflection, more dangerous than maintaining a FB page is allowing yourself to be photographed in a compromising situation. Whether you have a FB page or not, others can now post your photo to the entire internet universe, and there is nothing you can do about it. But whether a random employer could ever find those pics of you is another question.
