For anyone in the IB program, or who can assist me...

Is it hard to take HL Biology and Chemistry?
Or should I just do HL Chemistry and SL Physics?
(btw, im trying to get into medical school)

and another thing is that i dont get the whole 6 subject thing. are you supposed to do 3 SL's and 3 HL's your junior AND senior year? or complete 3 SL's and 3 HL's over the course of junior and senior year. because here is how my planned schedule will look as of now:

IB History - HL
IB English - HL
IB Chemistry - HL
IB Math - SL
IB Spanish - SL
Pre-IB Physics
Concert Choir

^^^ 11th grade.

IB History II - HL
IB English II - HL
IB Chemistry II - HL
IB Math II - SL
IB Spanish - SL
IB Physics (or Enviornmental Systems) - SL
IB TOK

^^ 12 grade.

I'm worried about 11th grade because I don't have a 6th subject and only have 2 SL's. =/ colleges im looking to apply to are UVA, William and Mary, Boston University, and Virginia Tech. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and live in VA.

Hey Im a senior now in IB so I can help. You dont have any HL's your junior year. Even if you want to do that class HL, it is considered SL until you do a second year of it so dont worry, you have enough HL's. Your SL's are fine, you only need 3 HL's your senior year to graduate with the IB diploma. History, English, and Biology I would reccomend as HL's. English and History are a given, everyone should take them HL. Biology is the easiest of the 3 sciences in HL. Unless your REALLY good at chemistry, i would suggest not even taking it. It is a very hard class. Instead of chemistry might I suggest IB HL Music theory? Your in choir. Its pretty much an easy class.

I would take environmental systems and just take the higher level TOK. This is coming from a sophmore who has taken all those 11 grade classes. Physics and Chemistry are horrible classes, but TOK is not that bad;all it has is a bunch of writing. If I were you, and this is my schedule from this year and next.

IB History - HL
IB English - HL
IB Envionmental Systems-SL
IB Math - SL
IB Spanish - SL
IB TOK -SL
(Concert Choir)

The Next Year

IB History II - HL
IB English II - HL
IB TOK-HL
IB Math II - SL
IB Spanish - SL
(Elective)
(Elective)

That should work....I think?

The problem with the advice in the previous posts is that not everyone's school works the same way. At my school we can't choose to jump up to HL after a year of SL, and there's no such thing as higher level TOK. anywhere.

Universities won't care if you only have 2 SL's in your junior year as long as you get all 3 done eventually, as if you're a full diploma candidate it's assumed that you'll get the credits at some point. You're supposed to finish with 3SL's, but those can be replaced by additional HL courses.

As for the difficulty, I would say that it's manageable. A lot of kids at my school are doing HL Bio and Chem / HL Physics and Chem. It's really up to you to assess your priorities and choose what you think will best help you achieve what you want :)

thankss. rmadden for my school you can only take tok senior year. im pretty sure thats the only year they offer it. but i like the classes you have chosen. and yeah i heard HL chemistry is killer. its just..idk. i was thinking i need more chemistry for college since i need 2 semesters of organic and inorganic chemistry. and ibmyp chemistry is just simple organic chemistry.

you need 6 subjects, but instead of having one in the last area (arts), you can choose another one from another area...that's what you have, two sciences, so you're fine dont worry :)
btw, ive heard that bio is really easy, then chem and physics is the hardest. so if I were you, i'd take HL chem & bio, that's what i'm doing :)

p.s. i'm doing physics right now. dont take it. its terribleee!!

^ The last area is an elective, not an art. TOK can count as that test.

improvprincess: the only reason why im doing ibmyp physics is because i heard there is a section of physical sciences on the MCAT. and i dont want to learn the subject on my own. my brother took it and got a C....im a lot smarter than him. Im sure ill do well if i study, lol. and im past IBMYP Alg.2/Trig.

^ wait im sorry, not on the MCAT, but one of the pre-med courses you will need for college. WOW....i thought too far ahead there. :)

well then certainly do it :) some people seriously rock at physics, and you could be one of them! ;)

sorry thought it was an art! havent looked at our schools course guide in a while ;)
