For Art - Cooper Union vs UCLA Art

My daughter has been accepted into some of the art schools (Pratt, Parsons, Cooper Union) and also into UCLA Art School. She is trying to decide between UCLA and Cooper Union Art. She is interested in being an Illustrator or Animator down the line. We live in San Francisco.

UCLA
Pro - In state so lower tuition
Closer to home
More known name
Better weather
Cons - Not really an art school

Cooper Union -
Pro - Small class size so get individual attention
Art school
For people who have heard of this, it is a well respected school
New York
Cons - Many people have not heard about the school, so may hamper opportunities
Weather
Far from home

We don’t have much information about either of the programs so would love to get experiences from current or past students of either of those programs. As for the tuition, both seem pretty comparable .

@hihellohello, I saw somewhere that you are at CU. Would you be able to share your experience with that program?

Hi. Have your daughter decided where to attend? My daughter is still thinking of between the Cooper Union and Pratt. We live in NYC. I heard the atmosphere of Cooper Union might be more stressful for some students. That is ‘my’ concern. As for your daughter, the location must be critical, too, particularly amid this pandemic. Best of luck!

People in the business have certainly heard of Cooper Union.

Have you visited the campuses Cooper Union is decidedly urban and without any real campus.

Hi jinlets, My daughter picked Cooper Union, although I am still concerned mainly because of the pandemic and a lack of real campus. What has your daughter decided?
