For Candidates and mids/grads ONLY

they try to keep you here but yeah that does happen in a few rare cases. i dont know how you would leave an acceptance open without paying that college money of some sort but im PRETTY certain a college that accepted you (this probably excludes ivy's that filled your spot no problem) would be understanding and make room for you. the only case i know of is of somebody who quit (did not get kicked out for medical reasons) and was enrolled at nebraska for the fall semester.

I have made backup plans for a state college. Had to pay deposits for housing and admission. My problem is that the school contracts say I will be responsible for a semester of tuition and housing once I enroll and you must enroll by late July. That still leaves me exposed if I get injured late in Plebe summer.

Don't know if college would enforce contract and make me pay tuition and housing if I enrolled and never showed up but think stiffing college would be bad start for an honor code plebe.

What's you guys' thoughts?

i dont know what to tell you but it is more likely that you wont get hurt and even though it can be wise to prepare for the worst i would probably pull that deposit, say thanks but no thanks, and if something happens then a state college will be understanding... it would just be a lot of work. i probably didnt make it clear enough earlier... even if you DO get hurt, it would have to be really bad - they want you here if you want to be here and stitches, shin splints, even a broken arm or things in that area of seriousness are not gonna get you dropped. thats all i got.

"Don't know if college would enforce contract and make me pay tuition and housing if I enrolled and never showed up"

The college would be hard pressed to enforce such a contract against you, since they could mitigate any damages they suffered by letting someone else in off their waitlist and passing the housing down the line.

Not sure what the honor issue is here . . . .

DeepThroat

you might look into "enrolling" but immediately taking a leave of absence from a civilian school. i'm not really sure if it's possible, but... having completed one year of college, i am officially "taking a leave of absence" instead of withdrawing from my school. i would have a garunteed (sp?) spot here if i had to leave usna.
