Hey guys - Could you share anything that comes to mind about what freshmen should know before coming to Midd this fall? the dining hall, laundry, getting around, setting up dorm rooms, using the gym, joining campus clubs/orgs, etc? ... what are specific things we should remember to bring?thanks!

oh, and how was everyones freshman year?

Important stuff to know: You don't need rolls of quarters for laundry--go to the bookstore when you get here and buy a laundry card. There are machines in McCullough and Ross to put money on the card. When you do laundry, you put the card in a machine, punch in the machine number, and it deducts $1.25 from your card. If you can ride a bike and are in a position to bring it, definitely bring it because that makes getting around easier. If you have a car, you can bring that, too--freshman are allowed to have cars on campus. During the first week of classes or so, there is a club fair in McCullough so you can see what kinds of clubs there are and sign up.
Also, as you may know, it gets really, really, cold. I'm from California and this is how I have survived so far (I'm ending my sophomore year): fleece and flannel lined jeans and khakis from L. L. Bean--you don't need long underwear! Also essential: snow boots with good traction, long coats (I recommend long down coats from Land's End), scarves, lined gloves and lined hats. As for dorm furniture: you are supplied with a bed, mattress, closet space, a chest of drawers, a bookshelf, a desk and chair. Some people don't like the lights in the dorm rooms (I have no problem with them), so you can buy lamps. The chairs are wooden, so I would recommend buying chair cushions. As for other furniture, I would say wait until you're here to see what your room is like--you can always buy stuff here.
