So I am just preparing my stuffs early to attend Midd this fall. The problem is, I am not too sure about the whole thing.

Ok so their what to bring list has many things but somehow I can't help but feel something is still missing.
What to Bring | Middlebury

Thus if any1 has anymore suggestions about what else I may need... please feel free to add.

Also, I am an international student, so technically I may have to buy everything only when I arrived... How much money should I actually bring to Midd? I mean, they say the books cost 1000 and the personal expense is another 1000$ minimun. Now, I don't even know what other extra cost I need to pay (not to mention the tuition and health insurance). Any previous experience on this?

Finally, what will happen to me during summer holidays? Will I be shut out of the dorm, thrown off campus into the cold streets of Middlebury and perhaps rot there till the next school year? I mean, again, I am an international and so I am wondering whether Midd has a place for me to stay (I will pay!) or will I have to spend A LOT more money booking a 2 way ticket every year?

Thanks!

Ps: Any suggestion on winter clothing? I am from the tropics, I am quite lost now researching these things... especially when 1 coat cost 800$???? (Holy...!!!!) :D

=.=

Sorry for the double post~ tech prob…

When the campus is closed, you do need to find somewhere else to live. Over short breaks, internationals are allowed to stay, and a dining hall remains open. Summer, I’m not sure.Ask the housing office.
You can get a perfectly good winter coat for $125.There are good stores in Burlington, or you can order(when you get there) from LLBean, which is a well-known Maine retailer. They have everything you will need, and shipping is free. You can wait til you get there, don’t worry, it won’t snow right away. Last August it was 100 degrees out and kids were swimming.
You can get used books, or even rent them on line, so my kids haven’t spent as much as $1000, and if you don’t go out to eat at restaurants or drink alcohol, your personal expenses can be considerably less.
I know it is easy to get stressed and overwhelmed by planning/wondering what will happen, but try to relax! Things will all turn out in the end!

:D thanks alot! wooohoooo i guess everything is set now!

What kind of a comforter should I bring? Is there a heater in the rooms? Are the buildings well insulated or should I bring a really puffed comforter?

What about other things I may need? A coffee maker? TV?

Please tell me anything that may improve dorm life! Thank you!

You only need a mid weight comforter.
Also, here is a link from the College website describing what you might need:

Order and ship to the address given you… a nice mattress pad and truthfully, if you can swing it, a topped is ideal. Son got a 3in deep mattress topper with some sort of memory foam in which he said upon receipt that it changed his entire life.

And oh … you’ll need some sort of carry all to back and forth to shower et al.

That list seems so incomplete to me. I’m trying to pack as light as possible, and I’m wondering what kind of stationery I should bring. I’m wondering if I’ll ever need things like a ruler, a stapler, color pencils, and markers. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You know, they do have stores in Vermont…Don’t panic, it all can be obtained if you don’t bring it, and if expensive or hard to carry, just wait.
There is a TJ Maxx in town for comforters, sheet, pillows, lamps, nightstands etc. The bookstore on campus has plenty of paper in all shapes and colors…
The rooms tend to be too hot more than too cold because Midd has its own heating plant.
The dorm lounges have TVs, and your room has WiFi so you can stream on your laptop or desk top.
Extra plugs and a good extension cord are nice, but can be obtained at one of the 2 large hardware stores, as can a fan if you are hot.
You can have a coffee pot or just walk to the dining hall…

If you don’t have friends with cars, there are plenty of buses and taxis, or you can walk to the store and take a taxi back.
