For online app, why PAPER Student/Parent Signature?

Does anyone understand why, for the ONLINE application, one must send a parent/student signature in through the MAIL? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the ONLINE app?

The signature page does not need to be sent through the mail for the common app--only the Early Decision Agreement must be manually signed by a parent, the student and a school counselor, presumably because you are making a financial commitment which the school wants to be enforceable.

This is not true for Emory. The signature page MUST be printed out and sent in, it is part of the supplementary materials for the common app. & there is no Early Decision Agreement either.

Sorry, I didn't realize that. Emory is a great school in a great city--good luck!

Actually, according to the 'application complete' letter, if you are accepted ED, you have to have your counselor and parents sign an ED agreement card to be submitted along with the $450 deposit.

Moot point, I know.

OPUS was finally updated yesterday and, yes, you do need to send signature page in separately by snail mail, even if you applied online....For those of you who have not been updated yet, you may as well just send it in......

mines not updated yet :(

Mine only updated maybe a week ago. Maybe they update as they review each app? That'd explain why there's such a gap in between peoples' processing time.

I really doubt they are just now looking at apps as the decision date is less than 13 days away.

They started reviewing apps the week of thanksgiving ( well thats what a counselor told me)... I know why my opus still hasnt been updated, I just talked to them earlier last week, but they said they havent/cant review my app yet. However, my finanial aid to do's are up now so somthings happening.

I just checked and my finaid to-dos are up there (must have been added within the last few days.)

Does anybody have the 06 tax returns on their to-do list? Because I mailed my via certified mail a while back, but the tracking number USPS gave me only says I mailed it and not that it was delivered. That worries me a bit, but my OPUS doesn't have the 06 tax forms on the to-do list, meaning they DID receive them and checked them off, or the item was never on the to-do in the first place.

Or maybe, the 06 returns aren't all that important seeing as they are only used to give a preliminary finaid package.

Edit: the 2007 returns are on my to-do however as I haven't sent them.

My 06 tax retern to do isnt up b/c I faxed it a little over a week ago but my 07 to dos and fafsa are because they are impossible to do right now, they arent do until next year ( march mabe april I forgott).....But, they have all they need to estimate right now

i applied for regular decision and emory scholars, submitted my commonapp, supplement, fee, everything on nov 1st like i was supposed to. the opus still isn't updated. it says that the only thing that they have recieved is the common app and supplement. It says that they still don't have my fee (which i paid online through the common app on october 31st), signature page, transcript, emory scholar application, etc. My mom called the admissions office and they said that they wouldn't process any of that stuff until later becuase i was regular decision. but don't they need to process it all now for emory scholars? has this happened to anyone else?

the emory scholar stuff is on the opus?

ifoundnemo: yes, this happened to us....RD w/scholars....OPUS took till last week to update- everything was in 10/22....have patience...

bigreddawgie: emory scholar stuff is on OPUS if you remembered to check that box on your supplement......if you didn't it will probably update when they see the scholar's stuff in your file???

i sent in a early decision agreement by mail, and signed online with the common app a long time ago, about september 26th or so, and OPUS is saying my "signature page" parents/student has not been recieved, but have not recieved anything else, i have emailed, called and am not sure how this could possibly affect my application status, plus this guy jean jordan told me somehow that January 15th is when ED will be notified, i think he misunderstood me because i know its before dec. 15th

tjawdat: Again, some confusion...Not your fault....Apparently, the signature page WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED ONLINE....we just sent it snail mail this morning also....I don't think it affects application status, but they probably won't decide until they have it...Yes, it sounds like they thought you were asking about Emory Scholars notification deadline....

oh ok, thanks so much man, ive been freaking out haha, but yeah i just figured out he mustve thought i meant scholar deadline, one more question, do they really wait till the last date, dec. 15th, because it is 1st-15th right? to tell the decision

No idea...we are RD w/ scholars....Jan 15th is the date for us (or maybe April for all we know!!! )....

oh dang, GOOD LUCK though, hope you get in
just trying to pass the time here haha

They have been reviewing apps since thanksgiving week ( a counselor told me), but ALL of the ED decisions are relased on the same day December 15th. ....... That is what im sure on, but as far as the ESP I think you find out if you are a semi finalist in december but have to wait until RD to find out if you actually are a Finalist....If your status is Semi finalist then you are admitted either way ( I think thats how it works)
