mega - minimum wage in PA where i live is 5.15 ... imagine that.

and work study works where you get a set amount and that's how much you can earn - period. i don't really know how many hours i worked.. i just showed up and worked, and i always used up all my money by the end of the semester so i'd have the last week or two off which was great with finals and all.

and whoever asked about what a fender is - - a guitar. i'm not a fan of the new stuff.. just the vintage ;)

i dont know about it, ill probably do it first year but id rather be an RA, im a pretty friendly person and open, usally ill get along with anyone with out too much friction

fendergirl- do you actually own vintage fender? my friend boughta '72 tele, i luv the sound but i cant beat it up like a do with my dean, plus it goes out tune....but tele are my favorite fenders!

that's the same as mine. it's awesome. stays in tune wonderfully. it's pre-cbs (ie, pre-crap)... so it's an awesome guitar... and sounds beautiful... and it's MADE IN THE USA... that's the first thing my best friends dad noticed about it.. haha...

i also play the drums and i try to play the harmonica.. but that hasn't been going too well :)

thats really cool, its hot when girls play guitar, i gotta a crappy dean and a line 6, i plan on upgrading before i go to collge...i like to play classic rock and shred metal...people stereo type me for that but i luv it and really wanna get a vintage ernie ball, i met his son and talked to him about it, do you have a problem keeping a guitar like that in a dorm, its worth atleast aa grand or two? cuz im gonna take mine...and maybe raise hell with it!

nah.. no problem keeping it in the dorms.. just make sure you shut/lock your door when you're not in the room. i was actually taking pictures of my guitar for some art project one day and my door was open and three or four guys invited themselves in to check out my guitar.. haha... it's always an attention getter.... a chick with a guitar... especially a nice guitar..

that's cool that you met his son. i roomed with zappas niece in college, so that was an experience. anyway, i gotta get going.. have a good night

I get $8 an hour, and i can work as much or as little as I want a week...no set amount. What I earn one semester goes to paying my share of tuition the next semester, and anything else is my spending money. I typically work 10-12 hours a week, so yeah its something like $1000/semester

I'm a freshman research assistant and make $8.50/hr for 8 hours a week. There are different levels of research assistants and I will get a raise when I gain experience in the lab.

Here the fees for 5 1st - 2nd year courses are $1500 per semester. The aid which is usually easy to get is $500 for 4 hours of work per week. The students still complain. I'm like your getting 1/3 of your tuition paid for.

Then for 5 3rd-4th year courses your tuition is like $2250 per semester and the aid is $1100. Guess what, students still complain. Darn ungrateful ppl.

weigh your options. ask kids at your college of choice what their jobs are like - work study still earns you minimum wage (after all, you ARE working!). if you've maxed out on your available work study, THEN you could get an outside job. just remember that work study hours are usually pretty flexible - you're often scheduled in between classes, etc. and if you go to a larger school there are usually a bunch of other people who can cover you if you can't make it b/c you want to study for a huge test or something. with an outside job you wouldn't have that luxury, and they're much less likely to let you read your textbook during work!
