For the Glory invite

So my D received an invite and I am being told it is a prestigious invite and that everyone who attends receives a scholarship. Anyone have additional details? We would be flying in so trying to get as many details as possible before we book our flights. Thanks!

Did you register because it looks like most colleges are full?

@tonypa yes

You can link through to the agenda from your invitation.

@JSchoolorbust yes, I have read the agenda. Beyond what is detailed in the agenda, I was asking if anyone had more information regarding the (rumored) scholarships that are awarded as part of this.

FTG is an inviitation only visit for high achievers who meet some mysterious matrix. Penn State thinks you have lots of offers, and is wooing you. Those students are more likely than most to receive scholarships either from PSU, Schreyer (if they are admitted there) or their PSU college — but FTG is not a scholarship program and they are not handing out scholarships as swag. It’s a rumor, unless of course someone has info direct from FTG.

If you received a FTG invite it does mean your student received a scholarship. You need to show up in order to receive it. This was discussed on a PSU parents page that I am on with 8,000 members. Everyone who attended last year received a scholarship.

@japsmom thank you! Do you know the $ range of the scholarships? My understanding is that Penn State doesn’t give out much in the way of scholarships and we are trying to weigh the benefits of the potential scholarship against the cost of plane tickets, missing work, etc. Appreciate any insight you can give.

No one has posted the amounts they received so I am really not sure.

Found this on a thread here from last year, although the amounts don’t add up:

We’re out of state and attended a very nice “for the glory” overnight program. Private meet and greets with professors in the major, tour of the campus, cocktail reception at Beaver Stadium. Very impressive. But, for all of this the Provost Scholarship was awarded. $16,000 OVER 4 YEARS. $2,000 a year. Just too expensive. Will attend Rutgers. An excellent in-state school for his major

I believe the Provost Award is $4k/yr, or $16k total.

The above is correct. $4,000 for four years totaling $16,000. My daughter attended this year and all attendees (about 150 kids) received the same award. We still have not received any merit-aid scholarship information and she was accepted in November. I am wondering if this is all we can expect.

@AreBee My D also went to FTG and received the $16,000 over 4 years. Unfortunately, I think that’s it for merit $
since they’re known to be stingy. In fact, if students were invited but didn’t attend, they didn’t get the award.

This is interesting - we just got a letter today offering my daughter the $4k per year Provost Award. To our knowledge she did not receive a FTG invite (unless it got tossed accidentally). So either you can receive the Provost without being invited to FTG or you can receive it without attending FTG.

I also got it as a freshman and do not believe I was invited to For the Glory. I do not know anything about what happens if you’re invited but don’t attend.

I attended FTG and got the award, but then also got the letter today. So I wonder if you were invited to FTG but didn’t attend, you still got the award letter today? In other words, you didn’t get it then because you weren’t there, but weren’t totally denied it. Seems like they wanted to make a big deal about it at the event, which was very nice!

congrats! My D was invited to FTG but had a conflict and ultimately was unable to attend. Today she received the Provost Award letter so we are thankful her inability to attend FTG didn’t impact her award.

My son also was invited to For the Glory and was unable to attend but got the notification of the provost award this week so getting the award is not contingent on attending.
