Scholarships

anyone receive letter stating scholarship awards are announced in February. Also, past student - what have you been awarded?

Schreyers kids get $5k I’m told. Mine was invited to For The Glory and got $4k. Generally, psu is not generous.

Does going to For the Glory event increase odds of getting $$? Because we are going to the Smeal Direct Admit Day two weeks later and rather not do 4 hr drive twice in 2 weeks.

@emonstr403. Historically on the last day of FTG, they give the Provost Award. I can’t guarantee they will give it if you dont attend, but we had a conflict for FTG last year and didn’t go. A week later we got the award letter. But if you can go, you should. They really roll out the red carpet and students spend time with school Dean and professors.

is there less chance of getting scholarship $$ if you accept admission offer prior to scholarship notifications going out in February?? Basically asking current students if they were offered $$ after accepting

You shouldn’t accept until you have your financial aid package, unless your parents have clearly stated they can pay full costs in cash from their income and savings.

Does this FTG event happen only once per year? What about the currently applicants that are currently waiting for decisions? Are they out of the running? A lot of us have been waiting since early September/October for EA decisions that have not been made. Just curious. Thanks!

It happens once per batch of acceptances. This year has been really (unpleasantly) messy but they should have several FTG weekends till March.

Are FTG weekends by invite only?

@HelenH, yes they are.

We just came home from FTG. Very nice event and well worth our 3+ hour drive. This year the scholarship award is $24,000 over four years - $5,000 per year for the first two years, and $7,000 per year for the last two years.

What are the STATS for students that are selected for FTG?

Did every person who attended the “for the glory” event get a scholarship?

When do you hear if you are invited to the FTG event? And what stats are typically selected?

@Mommy43 no specific stats. The invites go to the “highest academic achievers accepted to University Park”.

We were unable to attend FTG as my son had to be at Penn St this past Fri and Sat for something else and we couldn’t go twice. I’ve read conflicting info about whether the scholarship is offered to those that don’t attend. Can anyone from last year confirm if they have this answer? Thanks.

@ljrfrm we couldn’t go last year and afterwards we received notification in the mail that she’d gotten the award. So, yes for last year.

@learning19 Yes, everyone who attended was offered the same scholarship.

simple0920 - Thanks! Hopefully it will be the same this year!! Penn State’s official response to my son’s question was “you are still in the running”.

@RKmom which event are you talking about that increases the chance of scholarship, can you please let me know.
