Is it bad to write about an extracurricular activity? I know that there is already a space for describing an activity, but I have an activity so extraordinary I simply feel that the 150 words is not enough. Is it bad to do this or should I just use the 150 word space and talk about something else for the supplemental essay?
@habitualnerd I wrote about an activity in my life that significantly shaped me into the person I am today, but I focused more of my time on how it has shaped me rather than the things I did in the activity itself. If you’re looking to discuss an activity, I would say to try and tie it back into how it has changed you. If it really means that much to you there is definitely some strength behind its effect in your life. Whether it be an event, an activity, or a community doesn’t matter, just make sure to reflect on how it has shaped you as a person.
Go for it! Harvard D wrote about a second extracurricular activity that was meaningful. Unless there is some other event in your life or identity that so merits discussion, I’d think they’d be surprised if you didn’t talk about what matters to you most. I recall a presenter at one college saying as much. Good luck.
I disagree to some extent with Ballin. Keep the reflection short and simple. Better yet don’t focus on yourself at all .
