For those from VA, which airline do you fly?

Hi all,
We are trying to figure out which is the best/most used airline that most people from VA use to fly from VA to Colorado Springs. We live in Richmond, so we will most likely fly out of Richmond and in to the airport at Colorado springs. I want to sign up for a rewards program to get started on frequent flyer miles. American, United, and Delta are the big three that I see. Anyone have an opinion or advice? Thanks!

Something to keep in mind. Denver is only an hour away and is one of the country's Mega-Airports. MANY times, you can save a very large amount of money by flying to Denver. Then rent a car for the rest of the trip.

I'm originally from New Jersey and New York City. A 40 mile stretch back east could take an hour and a half and you could definitely get lost. NOT OUT WEST. I've now lived in Cheyenne Wyoming; less than 2 hours from Denver; you can't get lost and the speed limit is 75-80mph the entire may. The road that leaves the Denver Airport goes in 2 directions. It says north (Denver/Ft Collins) It says South (Colorado Springs). It's the interstate. You couldn't miss it if you tried. Follow it for about an hour and you are in Colorado Springs. THE VERY FIRST EXIST says "AIR FORCE ACADEMY NORTH EXIT). That's the one you want.

Anyway, just something to look into. Denver is close and gets a lot more flights. You were probably going to get a rental car anyway. The only additional cost is the gas. At 25mpg and ALL highway mileage, that's about $20 in gas round trip. Compared to the $200 +/- PER PERSON you can save up to depending on the airlines and time of year, it's something to consider.
P.S. I have an airport in Cheyenne Wyoming. STILL, whenever I fly in or out or have relatives coming to visit, we go out of Denver International Airport. It's that much cheaper and for me worth the 90 minute drive. Denver to Colorado Springs is only about an hour.

Give yourself some extra time in the winter. It took 2.5 hours for me to get to Denver last week.

Hey I'm from Virginia! Whoa!!! I haven't been to this website like forever!!!!!!!!!!!!...since I was a senior in high school!! I'm a 3 degree now. Wow!! Talk about a blast from the past! Everyone is still asking the same questions! lol, it really isn't that bad! You think the applying to come here is hard, just wait until you're in ;)

Thank you all! I looked at the prices between Richmond and Colorado Springs and then Richmond and Denver just to compare, and you are right. The flights into Denver at this point are about $50-75 cheaper. Is it difficult for the cadets to get from the Academy to the Denver airport to travel home?

Hamarcelo, where in Virginia are you from? If my son has any questions, do you mind if he gets in touch with you?

If your S is trying to get to Denver for times like Thanksgiving and Christmas, there are almost always buses provided by outdoor rec at the academy with a $40 fee for round trip there and back. That's how I got to Denver this break! :)

Thank you hornetguy. He most likely won't be coming home other than during major holidays and for summer break, since it is so far. Do they have a bus provided over the summer, too?

Oh sure! I'm from Virginia Beach! my email is hamarcelo@gmail.com come. Once he emails me, he can have my number.

Hornetguy: man! get off the computer and enjoy your thanksgiving break b4 we get back to the Hill ;)

Thank you, hamarcelo. I'm sure he will be emailing you soon. Do you fly in from Denver or Colorado Springs?
