My name is Simon Haidamous, and I am the Recruiting Coordinator of the Business Honors Program at The University of Texas at Austin. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions concerning the program.

I've also made myself readily available via AOL Instant Messenger at "blottedcow." I know the screenname is unprofessional; however, I am also a student enrolled in the program and maintain a life outside of the classroom.

Also, this fall, I will be planning several recruiting receptions across Texas. Please let me know if you will be in the state and would like to attend.

For someone who is out of state, does that possibly hinder a person's chances admission into BHP? I didn't know if there was an in-state slant. Also what kind of scholarships are available to an out of state student? How is the recruiting on campus for BHP students? I want to get into investment banking, and I wondered if they recruited on campus?

Admissions into the BHP is a strictly blind process. In short, we do not favor Texas residents over out-out-state students. However, this may not be as transparent in our numbers because the regular McCombs admission process favors Texas residents, and a prerequsitie for BHP is that you are admitted to McCombs. At any rate, if a student is qualified for BHP, chances are he/she is a solid candidate for the general McCombs.

As for scholarships, both OOS and Texas residents need to complete UT's scholarship application before the December 1st deadline. Too often students miss this deadline, and scholarship opportunities are missed. As a student that received over $80,000 in scholarships towards UT, I encourage you to look early and apply, apply, apply.

As for i-banking, please know the top banks (Merrill, Goldman, Blackstone, Citi, etc.) all recruit on campus, particularly BHP students. I am currently a third year interested in banking, and have solid relationships with the Goldman and ML recruiters. In fact, last week they invited myself and two BHP peers to attend an office visit and a very nice lunch downtown....pretty much wanted to get on our radar screen for next summer.

Some other words of caution, go into business with an open mind. A mistake several students make is wanting to do only banking, only to either A) not know what it even is and B) limit themselves from something they might be better suited for. In no way am I doubting your capacities to do banking; however, it is a running joke with recruiters that freshmen do not have the slightest idea as to what i-banking is all about. So do your research.

Hope this helped clear things a little bit.
