For those of us applying to UMich this Fall...

...which i figure would basially be everyone here who's 2010...

I was just on their website, and the essays that we have to write have been released.

But don't get excited.

I don't know if the essay changes from year to year, but everyone applying for Fall 2010 has been completely hosed.

The first essay is super super hard, AND it wants us to do it in 250 words. The prompt probably doesn't even apply to most of us (definitely doesn't apply to me), and I think most people (including myself) would have trouble writing that in 250 words. I could go off on a 2000 word tangent on cultural diversity. Heck, I could write a BOOK on it. And then, after I've probably used 200 words, it's like "how can you make UMich more diverse?" Again, I could write 2000 words..

And then, it makes us CHOOSE one? What the heck? Did they deliberately make 2 of the optional ones really hard and the other one really easy, so that they can just throw out all the apps with the easy one? They HAVE a trick up their sleeve with this. The easy essay is off limits.. is it?

I just want to know what you guys are doing, because you're all such good role models, ya know..

And more, I guess, how do you guys condense something so hard into 250 measley words?

Yeahh! I got an email with a link to the essays.

The first one was hard but the others aren’t too difficult. If you want to attempt the book one, think of any book about rascism and write about how it let you be in the other race’s shoes. Works every time. Or possibly a war story.

Me reading the OP:

nods head

gets really excited

gets disappointed

makes little crying sounds

I’ll check it out tomorrow.
