If you go to a college where you travel on an airplane to get to, how the hell do you get your stuff there? Do you just buy everything there and put it in storage? Or mail it back via DHL/FedEX/UPS? Obviously you can bring your clothes in a suitcase, but there's SO much other stuff you need to bring to college, right? TV/Fridge/microwave/xbox or anything else. Thanks alot...

i wouldnt mail the tv/microwave/fridge. it just doesnt make sense. id send whatever you have to send right before you leave. fly there. and in a few days you'll have your stuff. using this system, you should bring a few days worth of clothes in a suitcase.

Many people buy the heavy things after they get to school in the fall.

Anything you can buy at school (laundry detergent, toiletries, large appliances, etc) you should wait to purchase until you arrive. You'll have more room for carry ons and won't have to mail it all to yourself. Same with room decor.

buy most stuff once you get there, only bring personal items. For myself personally my parents drove down 12 hours and dropped most of my stuff off ;-)

Bed, Bath and Beyond!! Go to your local store and put the items you want on a registry. Tell them the town your school is located in and the date you'll pick up your things. They forward the list to the store closest to your school. On your pick-up date, your things will be waiting for you at their customer service desk. Fast, efficient, and easy!

also you can buy things online (like tv and fridge) and have them shipped to your college (what I did), and sometimes a friend will let you store stuff over the summer at their place.

I ship things before I leave, and then buy whatever I couldn't ship after I arrive.

Buy it online, ship it, send it from home........use storage offered for fee at most schools for summer storage. CollegeBoxes is one..but there are many.

thanks alot guys for your advice. Of course the obvious stuff like laptop, clothes, and all that can be brought in a suitcase/carry-ons...but I guess the stuff like a fridge/microwave/tv I would buy once I get there and then store it either at a friends house or at a storage place. I think what might end up being a big problem is bringing something I really can't live without...my electric bass + amp. I have an amp that's not HUGE, but it'd still be pretty hard to bring on a plane.

I go to school in England (and I'm from Boston) and I brought one big suitcase with me and shipped one 24lbs box via USPS.

My mom and friend flew up with me, so between them and me there was room for 9 check in boxes and 6 carry ons (alot of stuff--living off campus)...it was good to have them there for emotional support and physical help! But, definitly what the others said...buy anything you can once you get there!!

I go to school like 6000 miles from home and first day i arrived at school i had nothing but a bag full of colthes, immigration papers and a credit card.
