For those of you who got in, what were your SAT/ACT scores?

OoS - Mech Eng

2110 SAT
35 ACT
800 Maths II, 800 Physics, 760 Chem

International: Computer Science and Engineering

SAT Reasoning: 2220
SAT Subjects: 800(Math 2); 800(Chemistry); 780(Physics)

I’m a bad test taker

1950/31

2170 sat I
800 math 2c
790 physics
EE

woah. i have the same exact stats as thefrencharmy. but CSE

Oh, okay, that really helps a lot.
I’ve been worried about it, because my gpa isn’t fantastic (3.5 UW, 4.0 W) and my SAT/ACT scores are mediocre (1790 first try & retaking/28 first try & retaking)

However, my ECs are pretty good (Speech&Debate, Children’s Programs Coordinator, Dance Teams, Theatre, Special Ed Outreach, 200 Volunteer Hours, NHS President, etc), so maybe, just maybe I could get in :D

i will miss calc 2 guy forever =(

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

1500.

How embarrassing.

2000;

Quote:
"A person can be a good test taker and not necessarily understand the material in the class and still get an A. You can be a good test taker by understanding the professor and knowing what types of questions he’s generally going to ask (based on previous exams, bruinwalk, previous students).

Good test takers know how to get partial credit even if they don’t understand how to solve the problem.

Good test takers can cram.

Good test takers have a better chance at answering a multiple choice question by analyzing the probabilities and trends (this is true in certain cases where professors want to balance out the answers. example: if true, give a proof. if false, give a counter example. there would probably be at least 1 true and 1 false answer)

Bad test takers, on the other hand, may understand all the material in the class and still fail the exams. Bad test takers also get distracted or discouraged really easily."

Great explanation, because I am a great test taker and that is exactly what I do!

i looked on collegeboard.com and the stats for the average ucla first year right now are as follows:
SAT Critical Reading: 570 - 680
SAT Math: 600 - 730
SAT Writing: 580 - 700
ACT Composite: 25 - 31

so overall, if you have a score between 1760 and 2110 then you’ll be in the middle as far as SAT scores go.

don’t stress too much, half the time, getting a very good score on the SAT is a matter of luck anyways. studying can only get you so far- you never know what’s actually going to be on the test, just the format.

imo, that’s more useful to know than each of our individual scores.

alksdfkljsdf

I don’t know what to tell yah. Hahaha. I did really poor on the SATs and really good on the SAT II.

Hahahaha so I don’t know what type of test taker I am.

SAT: 2190

Breakdown:
Math: 780
Writing: 750
Critical Reading: 660 (ugh)

SAT II:
Math 2: 800
Biology-Molecular: 750
History: 650 (ugghhhhh)

ACT: 32

Major: Computer Science

SAT: 2330

Reading 800
Math 800
Writing 730

Computer Science

I like this profile of admitted students. It’s 2008, but there’s a 2009 out there somewhere.

[Profile of Admitted Freshmen, Fall 2008 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof08.htm)

Here’s 2009

http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof09.htm</a></p>

BTW… My daughter did NOT get in with a 2040.

SAT: 2340
ACT:34
SATIIs were all in the 780-800 range
13 APs - 9 5s, 4 4’s

Major: Biochemistry

HOWEVER, my GPA was absolutely horrible, I mean, weighted it was above 4, but non-weighted…not even close.

For me, 2110. Only took it once. Let me explain how misleading this score was (and how in general it points to how useless SAT scores are).

Critical reading: 630
Math: 800
Writing: 680

With a score like that, I must be a real genius at math, right? Wrong.

I took a total of six semesters of non-geometry math (which I’ll ignore since that was freshman year). Alg 2/Trig, precal, and AP Calc AB. I got B’s in four of them, and these were like ugly B’s (80%, 81%). I constantly got C’s and D’s on short answer tests despite studying beforehand.

So how the hell did I get a 800? It’s all about the creative manipulation of a calculator. Seriously. Every standardized multiple choice math test I’ve taken - I can literally not understand the material and still ace it. SAT Reasoning Math is a load of BS and I will give free tutorials to anyone who wants to get a 700+ with no effort. I also got a 720 on the Math II subject test despite taking it with a 6-9 month gap between the time I had learned the material and the day of test. I didn’t even study the night before.

Now, moving away from math, I got a 630 on Critical Reading. Hmm, I must be decent at it but not my best subject. Wrong. I was consistently one the highest ranked students in all my English classes and scored a 5 on the AP English Lit/Comp exam. I just happened to narrow down a lot of problems to two answers, played the roulette, and got unlucky.

The SAT is hilariously inaccurate as an indicator of academic skill.

^ lol, wish you were around two years ago when i was taking all my SAT tests. I’d like to think I’m a great test taker, but for some reason, the SAT kills me. =_=

1810 SAT/4.4 GPA overall

Lots of ECs though.

No worries, I have a friend from HS who got in with a 1500 ish and I have 2 friends at Berkeley that got in with a 1320 and a 1510. They had high GPAs and lots of ECs though haha.

zzzboy:

"…sorry to say, but that sucks for you guys. you shouldnt let dumb ***** like that make you lose your focus. "

You sound like a cocky ass, I bet you’re a real social butterfly and hit with the ladies at UCLA.

Some people just don’t do well at tests.

I got a 1680 on my SATs and I got into both UCLA and Berkley, no joke. And no I’m not black, I’m asian, just a normal guy no special circumstances.

Don’t believe me? I go to UCLA right now.

whoa *** called out right when i log on.

lol i wasnt being cocky there. im just saying you shouldnt let little things like pencil tapping get to your head. how is that cocky?

fall back.
