For those of you who have taken Stat 134:

Hi guys, I am strongly considering phase 2'ing Stat 134 for the Fall 2011 Semester but I have a few questions that maybe you guys could graciously help me with beforehand?

First, I will be taking MATH 1B (got a 4 on Calc BC and a 5 on Calc AB for AP scores) at my local CC this summer and then already phase I'd Math 53 for fall 2011. Additionally, I have never taken a statistics course in my life. With that said, I have received conflicting reports on the difficulty of Stat 134. Some say it is easy and you don't need to know MATH 53 to do well in the class while others say it is extremely difficult and you are insane for taking it. What do you think? I am trying to be an actuary and the Cal Actuarial League highly recommends taking STAT 134. For those of you who have taken STAT 134, what was your math background (and Statistics background) before taking the course and how difficult was it for you? Did you succeed in the class? Would you have waited and taken MATH 53 or MATH 54 or STAT 20/21 before taking STAT 134?
What would you recommend me doing in this situation? The only thing that complicates everything is that I'm 99% sure I'm going to Hong Kong in Spring 2012 so I kind of want to get STAT 134 out of the way beforehand.
Any advice from those who have undergone the dangers of STAT 134 would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The discrepancy in difficulty might be because of the professor, so checking out ratemyprofs or ninjacourses could help, or asking around.
The material is pretty bread and butter, so you’d probably want to take it. It doesn’t really have much to do with math 53, but you should be ready for significant amounts of calculus and summations, etc.
Stat 20/21 are kind of extraneous if you’re taking 134.
You can also look into the SLC for help.
