do we get to choose which dorm we get into???

You can choose but they can change it upon availability. I picked A&I initially but I was placed at West Lothian. Check out http://www.highlanderforum.net under "chit chat at the commons", we're having a discussion about the dorms if your interested.

hi! Umm hows the grading at ucr? I know other schools do the curve thing. And do you know like the average gpa for ucr students? I know that different schools, the averages are different due to many factors.

How are the dorms there? Like what type of people are in certain dorms, or is it very diverse. And do you have any recommendations? I haven't looked into that yet. And anything you can tell me would be appreciated.

thank you =)

I really cannot comment on the average GPA. Im sure there is a massive database somewhere. However, the grading at UCR varies from class to class. Some classes, like Biology 5A/B are known for being brutal, where getting a 5 on the AP exams will barely get you a C in terms of prior knowledge. My math classes have all been curved, and same with physics and chemistry. English seems to follow the general 10 point scale. Ill leave better analysis for someone else; its hard for a 4.0 student to comment on where the Bs lie.

For dorm, discussion, read this:

If you have anything else you wish to know, feel free to ask.

According to www.gradeinflation.com the average GPA at UCR was a 2.74 in 2000. I don't know if this helps at all, but for my major (business) the top 10% was 3.55, top 4% was 3.75, and the top 2% was 3.91.

Apparently UCR is special in that:

This is the only school in the database with deflation. The deflation has been attributed by university officials to a dramatic increase in enrollment over this time period (personal communication).

Personally, I felt that getting a B in college is really easy but that A takes quite a bit more effort. This comment only applies to the Social Science/Humanities majors. Don't know too much about bio and engineering but I'm pretty certain that those majors are more competitive.

syuan, if you liked ucr so much why did you transfer to uci?

Closer to home. I live in Cerritos which is 24 miles away.

GF goes to UCI. We've been together for four years, if that matters. Long distance drive was tiring us out. She hates UCR, so yea, asking her to come over wasn't an option. I'm not a big fan of Irvine but I can settle.

Just wanted to try something new. Besides If I really didn't like Irvine I would only have to spend a year there.

Cause of this experience I've grown to appreciate UCR even more, which is why I come on here to tell people that Riverside really isn't that bad. In fact, it is a lot better than what they think.

To legitimize my loyalty I still attend UCR Athletic events, especially the big ones. :D

hi i have a question. I've changed my mind now and I've decided that I want to go to ucr. but the financial aid stuff is due may 15, can i still accept it now and will I get my grants and aid? And are dorms still available for transfers?

I was hesitant about going to ucr, because of the "dumpster" school reputation, and I was afraid that I wouldn't get good career prospectives. But hey its all about what you do with yourself. I did send my sir to uci, but i can just cancel it, I just think ucr would be a better choice. I don't want to be stuck at ucr, in the major I don't want.
