For those outside of Massachusetts only.

When you hear of University Massachusetts Amherst, what comes to mind as far as reputation? Feel free to include any other factors that come to mind.

Thank you!

“I think that’s a good school…?”

I know a kid that goes there, and she likes it, so it must be an alright school.

ZooMass

Strong state school like UConn.

State school on the east coast. No judgments because I don’t know much about it.

School that I never new existed to be perfectly honest. (From Texas, never really looked for a school in massachusetts

Strong State School.

Big.

I know almost nothing about it. I know its a state school that gets confused with Amherst a lot, but my instinct is to think its a good school because I know Amherst is a great school.
I interview medical school and residency applicants and I would probably it in the category of “good, not amazing” undergrads.
I did hear that their dining hall food is superb (our student guide at Harvard was asked about dining plans and she went on for an extended time about how much better the food is at UMassAmherst).

Never heard of it (immigrant residing in PA)

Never heard of it- from MD.

At first I thought it was impressive bc i didn’t realize there were two amherst schools. Now i think "east coast state school " and know nothing about it

Although I just noticed it’s in USN&WR top 75 Engineering Schools :)

I’ve heard that it’s a good school, but I know virtually nothing about it. I don’t really know where it would stand in comparison to other schools.

If it weren’t for CC, I would’ve never known the school existed. I only know about UConn because they came to my Florida high school. I almost applied to there.

It is a perfectly good state flagship school, but probably underrated by its in-state students who dream of the elite private schools in the same state. Its consortium arrangement with four LACs is beneficial to the LAC students who get access to the larger number of courses at the big university and exposure to employer recruiters due to the shared career center arrangement.

Heard of it, but can’t think of anything remarkable. (NYS)

My father went there, as did my brother. I’ve always heard it is so big, but I don’t think it is (not like Ohio State or UCLA). Students can also take classes at the much smaller LACs.

Doesn’t have a nice campus, that’s all I’ve heard.
