For those still deliberating . . .

My S is now a junior at Willamette. He was born and raised in San Diego. When he applied to colleges he assumed he would be going to one of the UC schools (accepted to several) or Cal Poly. Willamette wasn't really on the radar - when he applied it was more of a safety school.

To make a long story short, once we visited the campus he put Willamette on his short list. It wasn't easy for him to make the decision to go there - he was used to sun and surf and had friends that were going to be attending schools he was considering - but he has been incredibly happy there for the last three years.

Yes, it rains a lot in Oregon, but the weather doesn't seem to matter much when you're in a positive learning and social environment.

His attending Willamette cost me a lot more $ than if he'd gone to other universities, but it has been the perfect school for him. It's amazing to see how he's blossomed (must be the rain!) in the last three years. Our formerly shy and moody introvert is now a confident and outgoing individual. Much to the shock of his parents, he even joined a fraternity!

Based on our experience, it's a university we strongly recommend to others.

Thanks Worthyscribe. S is headed there in the fall. Which dorms has your S lived in and what does he think of the different one?

Worthyscribe, betcha our kids even know each other :wink: If nothing else they could commiserate about how much they hate the rain!
FA is a funny beast. When our S was attending a CSU as an INSTATE student, it was cheaper for us to send our D to Willamette. Now it costs us about the same.

Hi,

I talked to my son re dorms. As you might expect there are advantages and disadvantages to each. Based on his experience, though, he recommends:

1) Belknap;

2) Lausanne;

3) York.

I hope I got the spelling(s) right.

According to him, though, there is no real “stinker” dorm.

Best,

Worthy

I’ll be curious if our children stay in Oregon after graduation, or return to drier climates!
