Any one considering Willamette

There is more on the Lewis and Clark and Puget Sound sites. Is anyone considering Willamette. My D is pretty impressed with the school, is waiting to hear from finaid to make a decision. Anyone else have any opinions. Most students that go there seem pretty satisfied, and the school is very personable. Any thoughts pro or con?

YES! although my S is only a junior. He researched this school himself and was pretty impressed with their website, anyway. I'd like to visit. We're from CA, but this is one school son will consider outside of our state.

I love it! I'm from WA, visited last month. Hope to hear from them soon. College choice will probably come down to financial aid at Pitzer, Puget Sound, and Willamette.

I love this school! We visited last summer and were very impressed. I wish they would hurry up though; my dd has heard from other schools, which is giving them a big psychological advantage.

I just got accepted today.

I'm not really considering it because they barely take any transfer credits from high school, so that would be about 20 credits that I'd have to take over again.

I got accepted today too. I'm excited, really thinking i might go there. depends on finaid- already got 12k grant to UPS, and the 2 schools are pretty much tied in my mind. also waiting to hear back from pitzer and pomona

A yes today! But no news on $$ till next week.

My D liked it a lot better then Puget Sound, although both are great schools. I think it was the students there and their energy and involvement. She liked Puget Sound but it had a more laid back student body, more low key but also very bright and nice. It is that fit thing. She too is waiting to see about aid . Congratulations to all!

i got my official admit letter. i got honors at entrance and a mysterious merit scholarship. anyone else notice that no scholarships have stated dollar amounts on their website or in the catalog?

<a href="http://www.willamette.edu/dept/finaid/scholarships.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.willamette.edu/dept/finaid/scholarships.htm</a></p>

They do, you just have to figure out which one you got, which should be coming with the financial aid.

but a couple dont have dollar amounts. and all it said was that i will receive a merit scholarship with my finaid package that is being sent next week. it didnt name it, just said merit scholarship

Sigh...we would sure LIKE to be considering Willamette. The acceptance letter with the indication of a merit award was dated March 22 and took 6 days to get here, and now the Saturday mail has arrived with still no award info. If her award warranted it, I would have really liked to send dd back out there for visit days next week-end so she could see what it's like in session (we visited in the summer) but that has become almost an impossibility as the time span shortens and air fares rise. Such a frustrating process.

I called and they gave me finaid info over the phone, it was quite impressive their package, our best so far except for USD and the state honors program which my D refuses to go to. They are so helpful there, I really like the school. My D is concerned mainly if the rain will get to her . Call the office geena. We are in the same boat with Pepperdine, may not hear for a few weeks and the clock is ticking.....

My daugther is considering Willamette. She wants to study English and Theatre. Any input on the school or majors will be greatly appreciated.

any input on the above majors?

A mom-and Alum---I found the school was both intellectually stimulating, but also very accommodating with double major requirements, and still included a semester overseas.Professors were personable-and knew how to challenge me to do better. My majors: Political Science and International Studies/Latin America.

Double majors may be possible if they are closely related. D (now a freshman there) wanted to major in psyche and minor in physics and do study abroad but just trying to get her next year's schedule in order doesn't make it look like that is going to work. Seems most of the profs want to teach MWF between 10 and 3 or 4 (very few tu/th offerings) so there has been quite a bottleneck for classes. First semester was rough (isn't it that way many places?) but she is really enjoying her second semester - made more friends, found her "group" and likes her classes better. We're from New Mexico and yes, the rain is an issue for us desert rats, so arizonamom, beware. :)

Any one hear about the Hatfield scholarship?

S is considering Willamette next fall. Will be bio major looking at premed. Any idea what the acceptance rate is to med school?

email the pre-med counselor at Willamette and they should be able to tell you. we did the same for pre-vet and got a vary favorable response.
