I thought it would be fun & helpful if we had a place to exchange ideas and questions. I know I have a lot about dorms and choosing classes, we do it over the summer with student & academic advisors. Be sure to fill out the form on the admitted students site! I also want to make sure everyone knows about the free t-shirt (yay!!) and the Experience Richmond days, looks like it’s going to be great! The list of classes kids can sit in on is extensive. I hope many of you will be able to go, we will be there 4/3. They also have an optional bus tour of Richmond to give families a look at the city, very smart and thoughtful! So far we are very impressed and excited!
Thanks for the info @cloudysmom! I will want to do the multicultural day one on 4/21 and go to events on 4/22. However, I have some conflicting school dates as I was planning to volunteer. Not too sure whether to cancel or just not do it. Thats the event I really want though!
Volunteering is wonderful & something you can always do, you only get 1 accepted students day so please go if you can swing it! Does this mean you’ve decided on UR?!
I’m still sort of where I was. I’m waiting to see if there is anything I am missing from UR. I have some other concerns/comments/questions that I will type up later on. I’m not going to lie, getting into JMU Honors (like UR something that I didn’t think I would get into) really has me conflicted as it gives many benefits that UR does.
Anyone going to Accepted Student Day monday?
@TheYellowBiscuit JMU Honors is hard to get into, I understand that, just really compare the schools, read the list of classes, career help, job placement, etc. At least you have great choices!
@TheYellowBiscuit JMU and UR are both awesome schos, use your accepted students days visits to get more details at each. Of course I am pulling for UR! My oldest D graduated last year, and I also have a rising senior still there. All the best as to you as you finalize your decision:)
@cloudysmom- my son and I are flying in on Sunday and will be there through Tuesday. He is doing Accepted students day on the 3rd.
@acke0815 Great! So are we, we’re driving up from SC. Where are you coming from? Is your S excited? My D cannot wait! She has only been there once, briefly.
@cloudysmom we are actually flying in from Ohio. This is his 3rd trip. He is very much looking forward to the visit.
@acke0815 That’s great, suppose to be nice weather, too!
@acke0818 What did you think of the program? We are very excited!
@cloudysmom I will be going on April 22nd. I wish that I signed up earlier for the April 21st ANSWER. I am on the waitlist for that event so I do not expect to be able to go. I will be visiting JMU on April 10th.
@acke0815 Congratulations! I hope it went well! I’d love it if you would comment about how it went.
@The YellowBiscuit It was fantastic. My son was able to spend 2 days living in the dorms with his host. He essentially lived like a college student. He remarked how friendly the students were, and felt so comfortable on campus.
@acke0815 That sounds wonderful! How did he get to do that? I didn’t see anything about overnights in the Richmond Experience info.
We had a great time too, very well done & my DD is super excited, doesn’t want to wait till August to go back!
@acke0815 Wow! That’s really nice. I do value kindness. I’m very glad for your son!
@cloudysmom That’s good to hear that your DD likes it so much! I am super excited for the 22nd and don’t really want to wait.
So glad you’re going and glad you’re doing the JMU one, too. That will be a great way to evaluate & compare! Let us know what you think afterwards!
@cloudysmom I’m assuming @acke0815 is talking about Scholars Weekend, which just happened to coincide with the Experience Richmond date on Monday. Admitted students who are named Richmond Scholars are invited for a three day visit to campus, including staying with current Scholars (with the exception of Artist Scholars, since we have our own 3-day visit earlier for the finalists, since they do the auditions/portfolio reviews and interviews live in person).
@guineagirl06 Oh, ok, that makes sense, thanks! What a great idea for Scholars!
Also, I read that you are double majoring as well as double minoring, how difficult do you find that?
And, last question, I heard there are 2 freshman girls dorms, Lora Robbins and 1 other. A girl we met the day after ER said she thought it was Moore & she offered to swipe us in so we could walk through it, which we did, but she wasn’t sure. Do you know which is the other dorm for freshman girls? We never found a common room or kitchen in Moore, although we thought each dorm has one? Thanks!
@guineagirl96 @cloudysmom That is correct. SW is why we were there this past weekend instead of the 21st. Wish we could pull off going back one more time:)
