AP Lang: That class is a joke.
AP Chem: Daily HW took max 45min, but I studied hard for the tests.
APUSH: We had study guides to do all the time. For the tests, I just read AMSCO.
AP Physics C: Tbh, I didn’t do much until the day before the chapter’s HW was due and collaborated with friends on assignments I didn’t finish.

5 APs.
4-6 hours/night.

2 hrs/night at least of extra curriculars average (some nights like 5 hours. and some nights 0-1 hours.) Plus college apps 1st semester.

I managed, and it was easier than junior year. but maybe one fewer AP would’ve been really nice. also one of those APs was a really easy one, like along the lines of APES. So that was helpful as well.

some of these are insane.
i have four right now…
AP Lit - very reading and essay intensive, but other than that, usually nothing.
APUSH - we’re assigned a novel or two and have textbook work and readings.
AP Calc AB - homework is not overly demanding… textbook work or problem sets.
AP Chem - practice problems and reading.

lit is a joke, as long as you read and write the essays - usually no homework - 30 min reading, maybe.
apush is a joke if you study well for the tests - one or two assignments a week - max 30 min each, 2-3 hours studying for tests.
calc isn’t nearly as daunting as i was expecting it to be - 30-90 min maybe three times a week, more time prepping for tests.
chem - most work, worst teacher (ironic, isn’t it?)

overall though, not too bad.

I’m in AP stats, gov, Spanish, and art history, and IB bio and English. On top of that I dance 5 or 6 days a week usually for at least 3 hours a day, I am an officer for four clubs, and I volunteer. It takes a lot of work, a lot of late nights, and a lot of coffee, but I have all As and I have time to hang out with my friends and enjoy senior year. You can make it work if you really want to, and don’t be afraid to lean on your friends’ shoulders every now and then from the stress (:

It all depends on teachers. I have the same classes as my friend and while I have like 2-3 hours of work a day, he has like 6-7.

Close enough.

AP Lit (B/B+) - 0-2 hours a week, depending on whether there’s a test that week.
AP Japanese (B) - ~6 hours a week. I hate this class.
AP Physics C (A) - ~2 hours a week. Depends on when the homework quiz is.
Linear Algebra (A) - ~2 hours a week. Less painful.
Discrete Math (A) - ~2 hours a week. Trivial.

Yay for senioritis/apathy for Lit/Japanese.

Activities: TF2, watching anime, wasting time on reddit/CC/etc.

AP Lang (B/B) - 1-2 hours per week, more when an essay is due.
APUSH (A/A) - 3-4 hours per week, add 2 hours for every 3rd week (test)
DE Physics (A/A) - 2 hours/week to do homework problems
DE Precalc (A/A) - 2 hours/week to do homework problems

Don’t really study math or physics cuz it’s easy. AP Lang just consists of going to class on test days and writing an essay with zero prep.

AP English Lit made an A+ first semester (an hour average every other day factoring in projects)
AP Bio made A+ first semester (maybe an hour every week a couple hours every three weeks for test)
AP Stats A first semester (No one does Homework and he doesn’t grade it maybe an hour or two every three weeks for test)
AP Euro A+ first semester (thirty minutes maybe every other day )
AP Gov A+ first semester (An hour maybe every other day)
AP Macroeconomics A+ current semester (did not have first semester) (No homework)

I don’t know this year has been my best year; it isn’t that hard really.

I am in four AP’s and I do not do all that much school work. I pull off all A’s. I come home from school every day at about three and do some homework until about three thirty or four. I dance four days a week for about three or four hours a day, so that is a lot of my time. I work on Fridays and Saturdays and volunteer on Sundays. I am tired by the end of the week, but it totally pays off! It feels great to get everything I need done and now I am going to a school I want. So it is worth it in the end. :)

Do all of you guys have block scheduling?

Possible? AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Lang, AP Calc AB, APUSH. I also have SAT studying

How many hours per week?

I agree with the earlier poster who recommended asking around your high school about the specific classes you plan to take, the teachers and the amount of homework they require. Some of the homework stats in this thread (1-2 hours per week in an AP class?) seem outrageous–just doing the reading would take longer than that. Either only geniuses are responding to your original post, or high schools and/or teachers vary greatly in what they require in an AP class.

I haven’t been in high school for a long time, but I see what my daughter’s AP and honors classes require, and they are a lot of work. Your post has also reminded me of a time in college when I was able to greatly help a fellow student with her papers in a Brit Lit class–we had both had AP Lit (well, its equivalent–had a different name then ) in high school, but I was much better prepared for college than she was.

So, once again, you had better ask around at your own school–counselors, students–now, so you don’t have a shock in the middle of marching band season. Good luck!

Foodlover–I agree that block scheduling would help reduce the level of homework, but even that still can’t account for the miniscule amount of time some of these students claim they have to work!

Homework at my school is worth 10% of the grade. I usually do 50% of the assignments and get As on the tests so I usually end up with 93-94 overall…

That said, I usually go home, sleep for 3 hours, play video games, go on Facebook/YouTube… I usually don’t get to homework until 11:00-11:30 and finish by 12:30 at the latest. That’s when I actually do homework…

So yeah, it’s very manageable…

Last year I took five and got As in all, as well as passing all the exams. Studying didn’t take up a huge amount of time. Maybe four hours worth on the worst days. This year I’m taking three, with an A, B, and C so far first semester. That’s only due to a combination of senioritis and the fact that I’m god-awful at math. Don’t ask me why I signed up for AP Chem and Calc…

You should be fine.

Sent from my SCH-I500 using CC

^^ I’m wondering myself why I signed up for AP Chem all year long…
Also if you have AP Lit that could shave away at your free times with all the reading and writing preparation- my advice.

You do realize that this is a year old thread right >_>

^^It doesn’t matter. A thread like this shouldn’t be thrown away like last year iphone4…

AP Calc, AP Chem, AP Lit, AP Macro/Micro Econ, AP Physics C (Both exams)

Workload isn’t bad. All the teachers except for AP chem teach seniors, so they know how we are feeling this year and don’t give too much work. I get a considerable amount of work in AP chem but I only do enough to maintain a B average.

I have been known to spend an entire Sunday up until 10 PM completing AP World History homework. We have quizzes every Tuesday, and it usually takes 2-3 hours per 15 pages of studying. My next quiz requires 70 pages. Wheeeee I hate that class.

It really depends on the class. My AP English Lang class is easy and fun. My AP World History class makes me want to jump out the window.
