How much time do you spend on school work?

I see so many kids here that are taking almost all AP classes and keeping straight A's. I haven't taken any AP classes yet but don't see how you can be balancing that out with a great social life. How much time do you spend on homework/studying on weekdays and weekends? (i feel like there will be a lot of lying going on here lol..)

Uhh I’m in 5 Pre-AP and 2 AP classes and spend about two hours on average doing homework on weekdays. Weekends is usually just 30 minutes.

I take 4 AP classes (Calc BC, Stats, Lang, and Bio)

On an average day, I do less than 15 minutes of homework. Of course, that may explain why I have a B in AP Bio right now. Still, I’ve maintained a 4.0 UW this far and may be able to get that B up to an A.

I’m not an any AP classes (freshman)… but I am taking the hardest load possible available to me.

We get a 1.5 hour study hall or free period every day (block scheduling). So use that plus an additional hour and a half each evening to get a total of 3 hours a day, which isn’t too bad because we only have 3 classes a day.

On weekends, I only spend about 5 hours on homework… but I also make review guides using my notes, to add another 3 hours on top of that.

It takes me a long time because a) I’m a perfectionist and b) I check over everything a few times. Also I get distracted easily… :P

I’m taking 5 APs this year: BC Calc, Microeconomics, Gov and Politics, Lit and Bio.

Pre-senioritis, I spent about 5 hours on homework every night. I plowed through everything while still juggling drama productions, my science research project/competitions, tutoring, and other extracurricular responsibilities. To be honest, the people involved with each of the aforementioned acts were pretty much my social life during the week. I did draw a line, though, and refused to give up my Fridays and Saturdays.

Honestly, it’s all about time management and productivity. Good times.

Ummm… I spend maybe 30-45 minutes total on homework per day… that is… if I do it. [I usually don’t.]

What normally happens is I get to math at 7:55 and do my homework. [Class starts at 8:10]
I then do my French homework during lunch for about 15-20 minutes. And I normally skim over my English reading for about 5-10 minutes during Band/Walking to English.

So that’s …45-50 minutes right there during the day.

What I should be spending:
30 minutes on math
10 minutes on philosophy
20 minutes on band
45 minutes on english
1 hour on ap music theory
30 minutes on ap us
30 minutes on french

So that’s… 3h45m… Definitely don’t do that. Might explain why I have B’s and C’s. =/

But next year I will have a study hall every day. And three times a week I will have a second study hall. 5-6 classes… 1-2 study halls… great ratio right there.

20 minutes. MYP and AP and IB Classes this year haven’t given me any work. Or I just finish in class.

Junior taking Calc BC, APUSH, Enviro, Eng 3 Honors (no AP available), and Spanish 3 Honors.

About an hour each night on weekdays. Two hours on nights where I have an important test the next day (usually BC). For the first two months of the year, I spent about 15 minutes a day reviewing SAT stuff or doing practice tests.

My social life is pretty much cross country/track, which takes up about 2 hours a day. And whatever clubs I’m in. I almost never do homework on fridays. I’ll do two hours on Saturday/Sunday. Though, I have AP’s coming up, so I’m reviewing now.

I’d say I spend 1-1.5 hours per night on homework. Open periods in school help me keep the actual time spent at home working on homework down a little. My AP Chemistry class actually gives me the least homework. My honors short fiction class last semester gave me the most (and the most rigorous) homework. I don’t spend enough time studying, which explains why I’m having trouble breaking out of the B/B+ range. I’m working on that.

I absolutely cannot stick these people taking the same APs without getting hours of homework a night.

I’m taking only AP Chem and an honors math class, but I have :
two hours of math (or more, quizzes quite frequent)
2hours (or more, if there is a test/quiz) of Chemistry
30 minutes Chinese

Another way to look at is, is that I don’t finish until midnight but start directly after getting home.

About 10 minutes at night at most. I am taking two APs right now and the rest are honors.

Spanish: Do it in class if we even get any(twice a week?)
Health: None
AP Comp Science: None. Dodn’t even study for the tests.
AP Chem: 2 hours the day before the test. Which is like 1.5 - 2 times a week. I get less work in AP than in H and i had the same teacher.
US: 10 mins. Dont have to hand in the hw on time so i can do it whenever.
Calc: Do in lunch for like 10-15 min, or i dont do it because she doesn’t check.
English: 5 mins to read the summary on shmoop when we are assigned something to read.

I still manage to have a 4.0 uw goa. This has been the easiest year i have ever had.

@hobbithill i feel very bad for you.

I’m not going to lie, I do almost no homework and just cram before tests.

Ac Dec- Just a bit of reading
Health- None
Honors English- I BS the Cornell Notes.
AP Euro- I read everything before the test.
AP Human Geography- LOL.
AP Chemistry- I do some.

Wow, how the hell do I not get enough sleep?

^I ask myself the same thing everyday.

10char

^Sorry hobbit :frowning: That’s a lot of homework. How does your AP chem class give out 2 hours each night? We had about 30 minutes/night last year.

I also do homework during SSR and free class time. I do homework during history lectures. My history teacher doesn’t give the most productive lectures, so I prefer to study alone and use class time to finish homework.

My AP chem teacher doesn’t give much homework. It’s expected that much of the studying is something that the students need to plan on their own. Also, my school discourages busy-work, so that probably helps keep the homework load down.

Also, Umbreon ftw.

Not nearly enough. I do most of my homework and studying the period before it’s due.

For essays and bigger projects, it’s the night before. :/

This Year: 1 Hour.
Next Year: Probably around 5…

wow, you guys must go to really easy schools to be able to finish your homework so quickly! I’m taking 2 APs at school (and 1 outside of school) and I have about 5 hours of homework a night, without procrastinating.

The only homework I actually do is Stats, and that’s 1-2 hours per night, 3 lately because all the problems take 15 minutes to do. Other than that, none.
