For those who have not gotten COVID (even though you were exposed), or had to go to the hospital for COVID

Somebody is doing a study about people who seem to have some natural immunity to COVID - here is the article

Posting also the link to the study in case anybody wants to participate

Interesting but so far no covid even with my wife getting it. I plan to be the last one if I can help it… Lol. Just got my new booster. Costco, no appointments 15 min…

None of my immediate family (me, DH, son) or my parents have gotten Covid that we know of. If any of us had an asymptomatic case, we wouldn’t have known. I posted during the height of the pandemic that my 85-year-old unvaccinated mother didn’t pay any attention to Covid. She continued her regular routine of shopping, going out to eat (in AZ there were still places you could do that), singing in the choir, playing the piano at her church and doing ministry/visitation, and traveling. She only masked when forced and wore it below her nose. Unfortunately, to her, this proves that the whole thing was overblown and masks are totally unnecessary. Oh well.

I thought I’m type O blood and that might make a difference. During the pandemic, my husband and I went shopping every week, we didn’t order from Doordash or Amazon fresh, nothing, we didn’t wipe down anything either.
I did wear mask and a hat everywhere I went. So who knows?

I don’t know if science has definitely proven a link with blood type though that possible connection has been brought up many times. DH is O+, son and I are O-.

No one in our household have gotten covid. I am O positive? We did not quarantine for very long… just the initial 2 months in 2020, after that we traveled and went to many large events. My husband has been working in person since July 2020.
Our son is in high school and has some vaccine issues so did not get vaccinated either.

I don’t know if I ever got it because I didn’t really ever test or have felt sick so I had no reason to test. I only tested when I was traveling (negative) No VAX here either. In our house only one person has tested positive and she just had a slight fever and headache for a day.

I have not had it to my knowledge, haven’t even had anything that would rise to the level of a mild cold. I slept in the same bed as DH for 3 nights until he got his positive test result. I was with D’17 the night she started being symptomatic. A couple of people have been at work when they started being symptomatic but we are spread out at work. I’ve been to all types of events, eating out, church, the works.

Neither my parents nor my 3 siblings have had it, though some of our spouses and kids have.

I had it before the vaccines rolled out in 2021. However this summer my husband and son had it again, I didn’t get it (we have one full bathroom and I sleep in the same bed with my husband). A month later my other son had it again, we were vacationing with my sister’s family, she and her son got it, I took no precautions again, even drove in the same car for 2 hours with my sick sister, windows up, nothing. I’m going to get the second booster but it’s so weird how hot or miss it is (my blood type is A). My 19 year old daughter just had it for the 4th time (in my family’s cases all were symptomatic).

My 18yr old and 21 yr old got it this summer before they could get a second booster. My husband and I rode in the car with them before they knew they had it. 18 yr old thought she had allergies and I couldn’t tell that she had anything. 21 yr old complained of a bad headache and thought dehydration was the reason. We had just gotten boosted about 2 months before and neither of us ever tested positive for it despite being closed up in the car with two symptomatic individuals. We tested multiple times. I did feel a little off and felt kind of thick in the neck like my lymph nodes and immune system were activated, but even though we tested a bunch I never got a positive test and never felt anything more than that. H felt bad and felt sure he was coming down with it one day, but he never tested positive either and felt pretty much better the next day. I think the double booster protected us.

H and I are not aware of having COVID. I work in a health care setting and have to mask in public places at work. D2 and I were on a short road trip constantly together and had a 2 hour car trip sitting next to each other home where she tested positive minutes after we arrived home. The couple we visited on our road trip also never tested positive. They and H and I both vaccinated and double boosted.

I have had a day or two here and there over the last couple of years where I had a slight runny nose or slight sore throat or headache. No fever. Could that have been a low viral case? Could I have been asymptomatic? Don’t know.

My husband has never had it. My daughter has had it twice (January and June this year) and my son and I got it earlier this summer (July, BA.5,it sucked). My husband has been in the house with us the entire time. We have managed to catch it and isolate ourselves once symptoms appeared. I’ll have to see if he knows his blood type.

Read something about how they think that people who have allergies have less of a reaction to covid or are asymptomatic. Does that apply to anyone here? Certainly does to me.

I won’t say anything about myself (don’t want to jinx anything before my booster in 10 days), but it doesn’t apply to my co-worker. She has a similar history to me - allergic to everything outside and animals. Took shots for several years without good results. She had MMM, but won’t be 50 until next month (similar to me). She got omicron in the summer for the first time. Had what I’d say is a normal case - felt bad for 3-5 days, fever, sore throat, congestion and a cough. Cough didn’t go away for weeks. It is somewhat better, but she still is wheezing, and went to the pulmonary doc last week. She now has asmtha.

@kiddie In your NPR link, can you remove the Facebook ID (everything including and past fbclid) in the url?

Regarding participants — COVID HUMAN GENETIC EFFORT , the study is looking for both:

  • People who had to go to the hospital for COVID-19.
  • People who had no apparent COVID-19 despite repeated exposure.

I.e. those who appear to be the most vulnerable and those who appear to be the least vulnerable.

done - thanks

Yep my family covers both spectrum - my husband (immunocompromised), myself, and my daughter (some allergy issues) - have all not had it (that we know of)

My father (91 in an assisted living) has tested positive for it about 4-5 times (since March 2019), including one hospitalization for it and one time caught it in rehab.

Fully boosted family of four here.

I swear I’ve had Covid a dozen times, lol, but no positive test ever. I’ve been exposed, via direct close contact, with numerous people. I’ve been to numerous dinner parties where someone had Covid a couple of days later. I had dinner with a woman just two weeks ago who woke up the next morning sick and tested positive that day. I didn’t get it. My husband had Covid and I didn’t get it. My son has had Covid twice, but my daughter has not, touch wood, got it yet. She has been 100% exposed in bars, nightclubs, airplanes, etc… and has taken no precautions whatsoever, apart from her two boosters.

We will look the links. Thanks!

My oldest son had it twice, once prior to tests being available (X-ray was the test) and once after vaxxes, etc when he tested positive. His wife didn’t get it either time. The first time we thought she could have just been asymptomatic. The second time she tested negative more than once, so didn’t have it.

I have no idea what the difference is between the two of them, but I know he’s Type O+ for bloodtype. Both have been vaxxed since they were eligible.

I doubt they’d be interested in being study participants though.
