For transferring to UCB and UCLA

I have high gpa (close to 4) but I don't have all the breath requirements (the english and literature ones to be specific) since my school cirriculum has prevented me to do so so far... will I still get accepted and can I complete that requirement after I get admitted?

Im applying for econmics by the way. Thanks.

What english are you missing? English and lit are pretty important. Almost every school wants to see those grades...

History, Science, English, and Math are the four Breadth courses that adcoms want to see grades for. If you can't get these done by the time you apply, i doubt you have any big chance of being admitted. And for English I dun mean ones like Shakespearean English or some World Literature Class. English as in "Critical Thinking and Analysis" or "Advanced Technique in English Composition" or something along that line.

btw, isn't one semester of English required for UCLA Economics? If you dont have any English courses done, then it means you didnt even complete the REQUIRED courses for your major. This can GREATLY hurt your chance of admission.

^Exactly, if it is an elective english class (and only one) it may not hurt as much. If you are missing Eng 1 or 2 I would say you have next no chance of being admitted. I know for UCB I had to take 4 english classes to meet their requirements.

Whoah! What four english classes did you have to take??

If you're talking about Haas it's Lit./Writing Req., Eng./Reading Comp. 1, Eng./Reading Comp. 2, Additional Eng./Reading Comp (Sounds all the same...but it's actually 4)

The Additional Eng./Reading Comp isn't offered by all schools, I assume? It wasn't on my assist, and the SAR says "Additional Eng./Reading Comp courses required at some colleges, but not of UCB students."

This is what my Assist looks like for english:

Literature/Writing Requirement (formerly Additional English):

This requirement is in addition to the English/R&C requirement listed below and
must be satisfied by the completion of one course (taught in English) in which
literature or writing is studied, not including the courses used to satisfy the
R & C requirement. Choose a writing or literature course from the Creative
Writing, English or Literature departments. The course must be UC-transferable
for at least 3 semester or 4 quarter units. Which writing or literature course

you take for this requirement is up to you.

English/Reading and Composition (R & C): You must satisfy this requirement by
completing courses comparable to UC Berkeley's English R1A and English R1B.
|Engl 1A = UCB R1A
Courses that satisfy this requirement: |Engl 1B = UCB R1B

Do not assume that this sequence can be divided. Unless the R1A and R1B
equivalents are separately specifie

That totals to three...

I would give a call to pre-advising just to make sure...

I sure will. Your assist talks about another prereq?

Oh yeah, I definitely have 4, but the "...Additional Eng./Reading Comp courses required at some colleges..." statement makes me think that only selected colleges have that extra requirement.

I had to take four because at Saddleback English 1A and English 1B equal UCB R1A. It sucks because English 1A and English 1B are equal to English 1 and 2 at other community colleges. I am taking English 1BH at Moorpark which equals UCB R1B. The fourth class was ethnic lit.
