I was curious about this as well…
someone chime in pleaseeee

What major is it for?

I took 2 years of Latin in HS- never again.

To have this count as for the foriegn language as proficiency, I believe we have to submit our high school transcripts (or a at least a portion of them). It has to be at least two years with a C or better. AP test scores can count as well (score of 3 or better); so can proficiency exams given by your CC- equivalent to 2 years HS. There’s a couple other random ways like SAT foriegn language subject exam scores for example.

Not quite sure on the details pertaining to showing the UC.

a couple sub-questions:

a )Do high schools hang on to transcripts and records for purposes like this? (hope so)

b) Do UCs see your entire HS record/transcripts and judge you based on this? (hope not)

I called UCLA and they said that as long as you checked “IGETC Certified” on your application, they assume that you have gotten it done. They do not care how it was fulfilled, as long as your JC certified you.

Your IGETC certification is verified by your CC, not your UC. The UC has nothing to do with IGETC. For the foreign language requirement for IGETC typically you have your transcripts sent to your CC and your CC verifies everything for IGETC. After it’s verified and approved you usually fill out a form to have your IGETC certification sent your to UC you SIR to when you send your transcripts. All the UCs see is that your IGETC was approved by your CC, they don’t physically go over your transcripts to see if you met the IGETC requirements. Also, some of the UCs require you to submit your high school transcripts in addition to your college transcripts if there are separate GE requirements.

@chumlee
The UCs that require you to submit your high school transcripts will have already accepted you by the time you’ve sent them in, which is around mid-July. There’s no way they can “judge” you because they’ve already determined whether you’ve accepted or rejected months earlier.
