Well, here's the thread for those of us in Forbes College, with our private bathrooms and carpeted floors*.

And for those of you in the annex, I pity you.

* Yes, I know that not every room has these!

What kind of rooms are in the forbes addition

Bad ones? Haha. No...it just takes getting used to. They range from singles to doubles to triples, and the size varies as well. Some of the doubles can seem pretty small, but they can be really quaint and cozy if you do the room up nicely. Word of advice: bring bright things and lights and the like. There's nothing more depressing than an Addition room with little light, a closed window shade, etc. All that said, the furniture is really nice. And the floors are really tight (as in close-knit) in the Addition, even moreso than in the Main Inn, I'd say. Socially, it's a great place to live, even if the rooms aren't that great.

So, you basically don't have carpet and you don't have your own bathroom, like the rest of Forbes?

Haha, phil your description is amazing haha.

Forbes addition is basically the section of Forbes that is often compared to Butler (yet most consider it worse because its far from everything). The addition rooms are nothing spectacular...small, dark, the bathrooms are really small too. However, like phil said, its known for having very close-knit "families". people like to call it the forbes family. most people in forbes are really close with their hallmates. i mean, you're close wa wa so thats good

It's "the Wa," not "wa wa" :)

here is pictures from a room in addition (A371) which I found:

"[Former VP/Secretary] Wright said that to create more residential space, 'someday we will probably pull down the so-called Forbes Annex,' because it is 'not particularly architecturally significant.'"

hopefully that "someday" will come sooner rather than later.

another helpful thread from last year: (see especially what to bring on page 2 by author Carbonated Water)

also forbes annex one of the 5 worst dorms on campus; kind of sucks for us!!!:

Hey guys, I was a freshman last year in Forbes, so if you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them! Yay Forbes!!

Voovi16, can you tell me anything more about the first floor of the addition. it is supposed to be double, single, bathroom. how small are the rooms and bathrooms??? is there enough space in the double to unbunk the beds? (i hate bunk beds!). how bad are these rooms???? is there a closet? is the building connected to the Main Inn or do you have to walk around?

Voovi--how about the non-annex part? What's the atmosphere in the subfree section? Any descriptions/etc is great!

voovi16, i signed up for subfree housing as my top priority; since i got first floor annex, does that mean i am not in subfree housing???

I just got my room assignment and it says "A214 Forbes College, in Forbes College." Is my room one of the rooms in this link? http://facilities.princeton.edu/housing/a_undergraduate/_drawguide/archive/resdraws.html
and if so ***. I didn't sign up for sub-free housing. Would there be anyway to change rooms.

I don't really know much about the Annex, unfortunately, I was in main inn sub free last year. Cosmic, if you're in the main inn, sub free, you have some of the nicest rooms in Forbes--I absolutely loved it last year. You'll have doubles with carpet, a private bathroom or you share it with one other room, and if you're lucky, an awesome view of the golf course, the lake, and the grad college tower (which I had). The subfree atmosphere is really nice--we had some people who went to bed early (always before midnight) but others who were into the Street scene just as much as a non-sub free person. What I loved about living in sub free is that the partying was separated from your living space--you could have just as much fun as anyone else on campus, but you were always guaranteed to come back to a quiet, clean area with no drunken people wandering around making a mess when you desperately wanted to get to sleep for a final or something in the morning. In my opinion, the best of both worlds. Which room number are you, cosmic? Main Inn or New Wing? Mel5140, yes, since you got first first floor annex, that's not subfree, sorry : (

Redsox02, A214 is not subfree, so no worries. You're second floor Addition, I believe.

@Voovi, I'm in 206; so no view of the golf course for me. :-)

The rooms don't look very big in the blueprints. Can you offer an estimate of the size?

Thanks for your description of the rooms--I'm proud to be in Forbes!

Oh, and can you explain the difference between "Main Inn" (I believe I'm there), the "New Wing", the "Annex", and the "Addition"?

differences explained:

206! Awesome, right across from my old room (211)! The rooms aren't incredibly spacious, but they're really nice for dorm rooms. A big plus is that you have your own private bathroom. Last year, the two guys who lived in there had quite a bit of room because they bunked their beds, put the two desks against the wall, and the two dressers as well. I believe they even had extra room to bring in a laaarge refrigerator for one wall and a bookcase, too. There's not too much else to say, except that I would bring some extra lighting, since there's only one dim overhead light and you have trees outside your window, so it can get pretty dark in there. Also, if it goes anything like it did last year, the group of six rooms (211, 210, 209, 206, 207, and 208) will be some of your best friends the entire year--Forbes is so close-knit. : )
