Forbes College

I've found Voovi16 to be thoughtful and reliable, so maybe a wait and see approach to a bicycle would be best.

sound advice, yes, unless you are an engineer. if so, the case for a bike is somewhat stronger, since the E-quad is another five minutes past the rest of the academic buildings when walking from forbes. still, you can always wait and see if you mind hoofing it that far.

Actually, I'm an engineer and still didn't need a bike. Typically, you don't actually start taking engineering classes until sophomore year--freshman year is still the chem, physics, bio, math prereqs, so you'll be going to those buildings, not the E-quad.

Hey guys, I was a freshman in the addition last year, and had a great time in good ole forbes. After this spiel, feel free to ask me any questions, tho i get the feeling Voov has it under control. Just as an introduction, I'm an economics/finance major/minor, I got involved in some cool stuff this year(West Coast Club barbeque and free T-shirts during orientation week! woot!)(seriously, drop by, itll be in the orientation calendar), and i <3 pton.

Yes yes, we all know we are at the top school in the nation, and the academics rock. I will admit it, I love going to class. The one time i slept through one, I was sad. Stokes theorem and flux are fun! Why did i disgrace them by withholding my presence?! (that's some basic mat 201, which im sure some of u will take in the fall) ;) In any case, Im sure some of you are wondering, what do all these nerds do to liven up? To get out? To get away? Well, there are some positives about Forbes.

One thing I must say about Forbes is, it definitely offers the best Street experience. This is for a variety of reasons: Firstly, theres nothing better than a Wa hoagie to cure that pre-booze empty stomach, grab an energy drink, gum, etc. Secondly, no one really wants to come to Forbes BEFORE going to the street, so pregaming will generally be in other people's places...which is normally good (free). Thirdly, you can self-legitimize those extra calories, whereever they may come from, with the extended walk back and forth from the Inn. Lastly, and perhaps my most memorable, is the fact that walking back home any time from 12-3 on a party nite will assure extremely memorable situations, be it drunk people, public safety, or giggling about you and your friends' antics that night.

Now, dont get me wrong. I came to Princeton to most importantly learn, do well and prosper academically. Hence, I limited going out maybe twice/thrice average every month. Thats about 20 times all year, and Im talking street events, other nights id hit plays, cultural events, MSG for the knicks, or the rest of NY for bootleg Dvds. Those nights, I would probably be back before one, so the next work day would be unencumbered by any previous indiscretions.
Woah im off on a kind of tangent, sorry! Anyways, feel free to ask anything.

Oh, and feel free to message me over CC if you have any further questions, or stuff you dont want to ask in the forum! Even tho, lol, the forum does preserve anonymity...lol woah i do ramble alot, sorry. Hope youre all having a great summer! Pton cant wait to have you.

voovi, some good news regarding the 'wa:

"New retail establishments may include a cafe and a wine shop, while the existing Wawa at University Place and Alexander Road would remain in the area."

http://www.nj.com/news/times/regional/index.ssf?/base/news-6/1154146089273080.xml&coll=5&thispage=2

overall, an interesting early look at the arts neighborhood. there's no way all the proposed facilities will fit in that block or two, though. among the facilities mentioned are shops, studios, homes, and display space; a new public square and a new dinky station; a performance hall, dance studio space, experimental media space, a lecture hall, a film presentation area, and small and large black-box theaters; buildings for the center for creative and performing arts, the program in theater and dance, and the department of music; a cafe and wine shop; a visitor's center; a contemporary art museum; and possibly parking. some of those overlap, but still!

I too was in the Forbes Addition last year and while at times it is a hastle- like walking to Frist takes 10 min as opposed to 3 it really isn;t so bad. It is really nice to be able to kinda stay in your pajamas all day on a weekend and go to the dining hall without walking outside. It is the only residential college where you explicitly know popel "because they're in Forbes" and trust me- you get to know a lot of people. My favorite highlight is the food- the salad bar is much bigger and has a much better selection than at any of the other dining halls- plus we have better ice cream and frr yo flavors lol. You bond with people more in Forbes because you walk to and from the the street together. Advice for the girls- be wary of heels- its a looooong walk to the street. One last thing- even the addition rooms are much nicer than most of the other rooms on campus (exception of Holder and the other newly renovated buildings). They are bigger and have nicer furniture. If you any other questions feel free to send me a message on facebook.

Thank you so much for that ray of sunshine about the Addition!

I'm in a triple in Forbes (264). Does anyone know what the triples in Forbes are like?

I was under the impression from April hosting that each roomer would have his/her own room? My host was living in Mathey though, so he might have not been the best source to ask.

Forbes 264 is actually right down the hall from me (I'm an '09er). Your room consists of a private bathroom, a double, and a single. Kind of like a suite, except no common room.

four-year forbes? among the entries on the office of design and construction's list of active construction projects is one called "forbes 4 year conversion." curious, since all statements have been that forbes would remain as one of three two-year colleges. but not surprising, in light of the previously linked-to map showing a new new wing north of the current one. see:

does anyone know about the "nunnery" at forbes???

are no guys allowed on that floor?
how are the bathrooms there?
is it a shared hallway kind?

The Nunnery is a hallway in the Addition. All the residents are girls, so the bathrooms are all converted into women's ones. Guys don't live in the hall but yes they're allowed. :) There's also another nunnery, I'm not sure where. There's one monastery in Butler.

so if guys are allowed...what is the point??

does that mean in other areas of Forbes that the bathrooms are women's/men's??

i wanted to join one to reassure my parents....

is this official (or random)? (i mean, can we choose singlesex housing?)

bathrooms are all womens, instead of 2 being women's and 2 being men's. And umm... guys are allowed to come into the rooms if that what you mean... they just don't live there or sleep there (usually)

On your roommate form you can request single sex, but remember- the first step is dividing the class randomly into each res college, so if you get put in one that doesn't have single sex then you won't get it.

Hope this helps!

but isn't Forbes all about private bathrooms?

Are you talking about hallway bathrooms? where there's a central bathroom and 2 shower stalls+toilets are for men and 2 for women?

oh and thanks again! you're super helpful.

My parents are breathing down my neck/not liking the idea of guys being able to sleep over in my dorm next year....

A lot of rooms in the main inn and the new wing have private bathrooms, but most rooms in the addition and annex are hallway bathrooms.

oh okay.
thanks a lot!
